Hello everybody. So I'm back again with another installment for my 10 dual color deck series. This time we're taking a look at Azorius Control. So what does it mean to be a control player? Well, the first thing you should know is that the single most used word in a control player's vocabulary is "Response!", and this is because you should always be ready to counter whatever your opponent wants to do. A game will play out somewhat like this with the opponent saying "I'll play a creature." and the control player responding with "No." The next few turns "I'll play a pump spell." "No." "I'll play an enchantment." "No." "I'll play a burn spell." "No." "Do I get to play the game?!"... "No." And it will just go on like that until the control player sets up their win cons, and wins the game because their opponent has nothing they can do because everything they wanted to do has been removed or countered. Here's what you need to know.

Your Win Cons:

  • Gideon Jura: He works as a great beat stick, and he also packs some decent removal.
  • Elspeth, Sun's Champion: Makes an endless amount of chump blockers.
  • Celestial Colonnade: When you cave cleared out all the other creatures on the board, you can just continuously smack your opponent with it, and there's nothing they can do about it.

Words of Wisdom:

Now, this is usually the part where I talk about what is good aginst you if you play this deck but with control, if you play well enough and you draw ok then you can win against just about everything. The only thing I would say you have to worry about is other control decks, and maybe other decks that play for the late game but even then you should still be ok. Now as you can clearly see there is no sideboard for the deck so if anybody has board suggestions they will always be appreciated.
