Maybeboard

They ain't The Rack and there's not eight of them, but this remains a discard deck inspired by Funkydiscogod's attempt to translate the 8-Rack style deck to Noble with Noble "8-"rack"".

8-Rack style decks benefit from a straightforward plan that's hard to interact with: Use discard effects to impair whatever our opponents are doing, coupled with cards like The Rack that provide a quick enough clock to bring the game to a close once we've put them in "topdeck mode" and our discard spells are no longer good. Our Rack replacement is our four uncommons, Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage because he pulls double duty as a source of discard himself, and because uncommon planeswalkers are cool.

Without a lot of options at common for effective boardwipes, we need something to stave off aggressive decks that get their cards on the field before we can make them discard - especially since Davriel can be shut off simply by attacking him. Enter our rare, Noetic Scales, which does nothing to win the game but does make it pretty hard for someone to maintain attacks.

We need more win conditions than just Davriel for a deck with no to dig them up. A Spike would probably look for more noncreature win conditions like Corrupt since we're already planning on tamping down the board with Noetic Scales, but here in Johnnytown I'm going to opt for... zero power creatures! Perilous Shadow and Silent Skimmer will get the job done.

There's possibly an evolution of this deck that uses Glaze Fiend, The Rack, and artifacts that can become creatures, like Fountain of Ichor, but that may be getting a bit far afield. We'll try that version later.

Hymn to Tourach is probably the best common discard spell of all time. Random discard can hit lands or other critical cards, potentially shutting down someone for many turns off one lucky pull. Wrench Mind is a sad imitation and still very good.

Raven's Crime is repeatable so long as we remember to hold lands we don't need. Burglar Rat is also repeatable once we have an empty hand and Noetic Scales on the field. I play multiplayer games pretty frequently so Burglar Rat hitting multiple players is also critical, as is a few copies of Syphon Mind, though they should probably be in my sideboard if I were going to start using sideboards.

We've got some expensive cards here, and our opponents will only have cards in hand for so long. Nothing will get the ball rolling like Dark Ritual. Late game, it pumps Perilous Shadow.

One weakness of our discard plan is its ineffectiveness against decks planning on heavy use of the graveyard. Bojuka Bog shores that up a bit.

We also need some fast interaction for when we just can't wait for Noetic Scales to work, or when our opponent has a creature we really don't want them replaying every turn, like, say, Mulldrifter. Defile is exciting but since we're planning on pitching lands to Raven's Crime, Vendetta is probably better.

The deck could fall apart if our opponent manages to get a few threats down and then counters or removes Noetic Scales. It's not much, but Fortuitous Find does provide a hedge against that situation.

Finally, in a deck with this many Swamps, the risk/reward on a few Witch's Cottage's seems ok.
