Mono Black Zombies with (somewhat of) a budget in mind. Saw a couple of interesting zombie tribal cards coming out in Amonkhet and have always wanted to throw together a zombies tribal. Still not sure if it will be able to keep up with merfolk or elves but sometimes coming from left field is all you need to win. So here it is:
Lords:
Cemetery Reaper buffs your zombies plus gives some graveyard hate and tokens.
Lord of the Accursed buff + the ability is very strong against decks that don't run allot of creatures.
Lord of the Undead buff + resiliency for other zombies.
Other Zombies:
Gravecrawler is one of the most exploitable cards ever made. We don't make use of any combos here but crawler is still a big threat when playing against anyone without paths.
Geralf's Messenger is another very strong card and goes with the theme of resiliency.
Relentless Dead is yet another resilient attacker. Not exactly in budget but an essential card until I see a worthwhile replacement (suggestions welcome).
Plague Belcher is a great card if you can drop the counters on a Gravecrawler or a Relentless Dead since you effectively end up with a 5/4 menace with a useful ability for 4 and hit your opponent for 1 life.
Gray Merchant of Asphodel is always a strong card and as a late game play you often will see his trigger hit for 8 or more.
Other Spells
Duress and Inquisition of Kozilek for hand disruption. Since we are playing black there is really no reason to not have at least a few of these guys. Didn't choose Thoughtseize since its significantly pricier and because we are running plenty of removal we only need to worry about their removal and counters with these cards.
Tragic Slip, Victim of Night, Go for the Throat standard spot removal to keep our opponents board clear.
Sideboard (in progress)
Bojuka Bog Decent grave hate and an easy swap out for some swamps. Could easily be changed for Tormod's Crypt but since allot less people are playing dredge and we aren't playing legacy I often find it easier to swap in the bogs.
Deathmark Solid card if G/W heavy meta. There's allot to be said for taking out a rhino for 1B.
Go for the Throat just to swap in and out depending on if Victim of Night isn't going to be effective.
Hero's Downfall Despite the cost, this is one of the easiest ways for us to counter decks like superfriends, and can easily be swapped out for other removal.
Phyrexian Crusader With a couple of lords out this guy can be swinging for 4-5 first strike infect, and is immune to paths and bolts. On top of that you get for Gary. Nothing not to like here.
