God Save The Queen

Don't be fooled by the mana pie chart for land balance; most of the land cards are multi-color, so it appears rather skewed.

The theme for this deck is "God Save the Queen", in a somewhat literal sense. The Union Jack is red, white and blue, and so is this deck, though regrettably I can't get the proper ratio of colors as they appear in the flag.

The concept behind this deck is an army of Humans, be they Soldiers, Knights or Warriors, to protect the Queen, Elspeth, Sun's Champion, at all costs. This is accomplished in two ways.

The first is to put out low creatures and buff them over time. Most of the creatures have Heroic in some fashion, either a +1/+1 counter per spell or spawning in tokens. Any time an instant buff is cast on them, it powers them up a lot, and even when the temporary bonus falls off, they still end up +1/+1 more powerful than they were.

The second is by the use of Equipment and Enchantment to further buff them and in the case of Butcher's Cleaver provide Lifelink for much needed life regen. A +3+3 instant gain from Brute Force , the +1/+1 token provided from casting it, and the Butcher's Cleaver means a 2/2 creature can suddenly become a terrifying 9/6 lifelink; 10/7 lifelink/flying if Ephara's Enlightenment finds its way onto it as well.

For the most part, the mana distribution is that W/U provides the creatures, while R provides the buffs, and therefore starts stacking on the +1/+1 counters. Ephara's Enlightenment Provides potentially renewable counter generation, so long as the creature its attached to isn't destroyed (or itself when targeted by a destroy spell).

When the Queen arrives on the field, use of the token creation is vital to help ensure her survival. Despite being potentially able to hit very hard, it's a slow build-up to heavy firepower, and the deck is highly defensive in nature; it builds up over time until it's an overwhelming force and crashes down on enemy defenses.

The sideboard exists in order to shift the balance whenever possible to adapt to different creature layouts opponents use.

The major weakness of this deck is enemy enchantments; things like Pacifism can wreck a single attacker's day. In the long run, however, the counter to this is simply to have so many creatures and tokens that it becomes unfeasible to suppress them all.
