When Felidar Guardian was banned in standard, i was so happy. That deck was my least favorite deck to play against. Now look at this deck, a budget replacement for it in modern. I think I may have gone mad.
Let's look at what these cards do:
Combo Piece:
Saheeli Rai and Felidar Guardian. -2 Saheeli, copy the guardian, flicker Saheeli, rinse and repeat. Infinite 1/4 haste cat tokens for the turn.
Removal:
Condemn: Good against aggro decks. For us, the life doesn't matter. Our combo kills them no matter how much life they have.
Reflector Mage: Also banned in standard, 2 turn removal on a stick. Very good removal.
Lightning Bolt: Only a 2-of because budget reasons. Very good removal that kills most creatures.
Banishing Light: Exile any nonland permanent. The only way to get it back is via enchantment removal. Quite good.
Reantimation and Tutors (sort of):
Call the Gatewatch: Effectively 7 copies of saheeli (only running 3 saheeli for budget reasons).
Not Forgotten: If saheeli dies, this is your best friend. Not to mention it makes a chump blocker.
Other:
Dispel and Negate: Counterspells against your opponent's Lightning Bolt or Lightning Helix on your saheeli, which would kill it.
Opt: Basically like running 56 cards in your deck. Very good for consistency.
Lands: Running 4 Mystic Monastery and 6 total bounce lands as budget fixing. Running 6 Islands, 6 Plains, and 2 Mountains.
Sideboard:
Filled out playsets of Condemn and Dispel.
Disenchant: Artifact/Blood Moon Removal.
Erase: Blood Moon Removal.
Ghostly Prison: Really hurts heavy aggro decks.
Glorious End: I know, I know. This card sucks. But sometimes we need the extra turn to win.
This deck rounds out to about $45. How do you like it? How could I improve it?
