Tower Gargoyle

Artifact Creature — Gargoyle

Flying

The gargoyle will not untap. As soon as your turn begins the gargoyle no longer is getting the -3/-0. So when you determine what permanents you control that will untap the Tower Gargoyle is a 4/4.

Suppose I have a Tower Gargoyle, a Meekstone, and a Dovin Baan on the board. If I attack with the gargoyle, can I then use Dovin's first ability to allow it to untap on my next turn? I doubt it, but it would be neat.

griffstick That sounds like a very Dungeons & Dragons interpretation of gargoyles.

TypicalTimmy I think gargoyles tend to be artifact creatures when they're carved or shaped--compare Tower Gargoyle and Biblioplex Assistant to the more natural Kjeldoran Gargoyle and Basalt Gargoyle. An Earth Elemental doesn't have differentiation; it's basically a pile of rocks or whatever in a more or less humanoid shape (or animalistic, for Greater Stone Spirit and probably others). That's my working theory.

Reaver Gargoyle

Creature - Gargoyle

Flying, deathtouch

Reaver Gargoyle gets -1/-1 for each creature your opponents control.

Reaver Gargoyle gets +1/+1 for each creature you control named Reaver Gargoyle.

5/5

DemonDragonJ on Liesa or Ravos?

Thank you, everyone, for your advice; I ultimately chose Liesa, since I already have Ravos in two other decks of mine, but I also put Vona in the same deck, removing a Tower Gargoyle that I had there only because it was all three of the deck's colors.

I have reinstated Ethersworn Adjudicator in this deck, replacing Tower Gargoyle, because the gargoyle was merely a flying beater, whereas the adjudicator has a very useful ability, and doing so did increase the average converted mana cost of this deck from 4.06 to 4.08, but that is only a very slight increase and should not be a severe detriment to this deck.

Windwright Mage was only printed at common, would Scornful AEther-Lich, Sludge Strider, or Tower Gargoyle be acceptable replacements. Or does your playgroup not care if a commander is common or uncommon?

Also for some efficient beaters look at Tower Gargoyle, Wolly Thoctar, Jenara, Asura of War, and Rhox War Monk.
