Didn't see a thread for the new set, so figured I'd start one.

Personally I'm excited for the return of shock lands. Overall not feeling the theme for Lore reasons but I barely care about the mtg story at this point which will probably help keep my interest in the set up.

Already seeing some nice new cards like terrasymbiosis which I need to get.

Not feeling the station mechanic so far.

What's everyone else's thoughts? Any must haves yet?

I'm pretty excited for this set, more so after recent official spoilers and leaks. I love sci-fi, especially when it incorporates elements of fantasy. Given that EoE is heavily inspired by Space Operas, I'm looking forward to any fun nods to Star Wars and Dune (it's inevitable). It makes sense since Space Operas are typically the flavor of sci-fi most likely to incorporate elements of fantasy.

Some of the aesthetics in the art shown so far for the Monoist faction reminds me a lot of depictions of House Harkonnen, especially from Villeneuve's Dune.

All in all, pretty stoked for the Void and Warp mechanics showcased.

Warping uses the original mana value right? Nice with e.g. OG!Rashmi (and e.g. Bygone Colossus)

I hope there'll be an MV 1 creature that makes a Lander on ETB. Anyway, I like being able to trigger landfall on other people's turns.

I like the design of Terrasymbiosis, it both rewards big piles of counters and putting out a single one each turn (e.g. Forgotten Ancient)

Ouroboroid is the new best friend of e.g. Ezuri, Claw of Progress and Jenova, Ancient Calamity

Archenemy's Charm: Kinda disappointed compared to Archmage's Charm & Archdruid's Charm. At least K'rrik is happy to have free removal

Genemorph Imago: I would appreciate the Metroid-esque art a lot more if it was stapled on a land-based burner. Guess it's basically blasting an ally with a enlarging ray?

Sunset Saboteur: Hmmm, any good group slug commanders for this?

Ragost, Deft Gastronaut: Nuka-Cola Vending Machine + Amulet of Vigor

Uthros, Titanic Godcore: Is it tiresome if I predict that the white land in this cycle will be the worst?

Timeline Culler: bratty Gravecrawler

No idea about spoilers... I just saw the cinematic on YouTube just now and saw Tezzeret floating in space like princess leah... soooooo I assume artifact decks are gonna be eating well?

Just a quick housekeeping thing - there have been a number of unofficial leaks of Edge of Eternities. Please only post images and discuss officially spoiled cards - TappedOut's official policy (posted here) is that posting images or text from leaked cards warrants a ban.

re:Planet Color cycle: Nope, turns out it's red's turn to suck

That Cosmogoyf will see a ban in Modern imho. It's just another Hogaak, and you can't even un-exile stuff realistically.

Set looks fun and cards are more on the strong side without going over the top, I believe.

Might be wrong on both statements, but we'll see.

Umbral Collar Zealot: Zahur, Glory's Past was in the last set and his activated ability has already been power crept

Evendo Brushrazer: the flavor text is incredibly

Planetary Annihilation: Fair mass land destruction. Makes my Ghalta, Primal Hunger -> Traverse the Outlands combo sad tho

Very excited for Umbral Collar Zealot for my Aristocrat leaning Party decks. Looks like the Monoists will be providing plenty of Clerics and Wizards for those decks to consider.

Loving the art for this set so far. Excited to see what else is in store.

I am displeased at how this space opera set clashes so strongly with previous MTG sets, but I do appreciate how WotC is doing something so very different from any previous set, and many of the cards in this set are very awesome, indeed, and I am especially pleased that WotC is finally completing the cycle of dual lands from Battle for Zendikar (i.e., Prairie Stream, Canopy Vista, and so forth), as that cycle has been long overdue for being completed.

I know that I frequently as this question when WotC prints new creatures, but how is frenzied baloth remotely balanced? That creature is simply too powerful for a mere 2 mana, in my mind, so I hope that other users here agree with me, on that subject.

The baloth dies to removal as weak as Shock... I agree that it appears strong tho, and certainly will actively demand an answer more often than not, since people will try to beef it up and/or protect it. Blocking it to death seems reasonable, too.

Apparently, WotC is printing only two new "battle lands" at this moment, radiant summit and vernal fen, which is very annoying, since they easily could have printed the red/blue land in that cycle, as well, and there is no indication of when they shall print the remaining three lands, but I do hope that WotC shall print those lands in Lorwyn Eclipsed, and I also hope that that set is where they reprint the other five shocklands, as well.

I definitely am fond of planetary annihilation, but I do wish that it had cost 6 mana instead of 5, because I believe that 5 mana is too low of a cost for an effect of that nature, and 6 also would have been a more thematically appropriate cost for that card, as well, since that card contains several other instances of the number 6.

Wooo, we can finally talk about Moonlit Meditation! Elsha, Threefold Master can make you bleed a bunch of mana rocks! Tombstone Stairwell makes a bunch of short-lived Sad Robots each turn!

What ideas do you have?

Why is the exiling clause on pinnacle starcage part of the effect and not the cost to activate its ability? Is that to allow some esoteric or unconventional strategy?

July 16, 2025 8:37 p.m.

legendofa says... #15

DemonDragonJ The exiling affects permanents controlled by all players. Exiling an opponent's stuff to pay the cost of an activated ability is pretty much completely non-existent.

I think the main value comes from the board wipe for low-mana cards, and the token creation is a way to break a long-game stalemate. Tying back to another thread, it's a heavy control card that breaks its own parity to close out a locked game faster.

July 16, 2025 9:33 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #16

legendofa, that makes sense, although it is still very rare for WotC to design a card in which self-exiling is part of the effect, and not the cause.

legendofa says... #17

DemonDragonJ Sure, but mass exile is definitely a thing white can do. It's a lot less common than mass destroy, and putting it on an artifact is a new twist, but white is willing to exile its own stuff as part of keeping the battlefield clear. Final Judgment and Sunfall are just as much self-exile as Pinnacle Starcage.
