Commander Deck Help forum

I have the following deck:

Progeny of Five Color Goodstuff Playtest

Commander / EDH* Ali_from_cairo

SCORE: 2 | 0 COMMENTS | 325 VIEWS

Which has no problem winning just about every game it plays. The problem is I never tooth and nail combo into Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Triskelion, because I find it to be a rather 'low blow' as it were. What combos could I throw into the deck to make tooth and nail more fun?

Kid, when you play Tooth and Nail, fun isn't an option.

You and I have different definitions of fun. Regardless, T&N; can absolutely shake up a dull game when used properly. That absolutely makes a game more "fun". When people play me they don't complain over the casting of T&N;, mainly because I don't grab the "unfun" combos. So do you have any productive input or would you like to simply call the person who clearly isn't a child a kid again?

First of all, "kid", at least in this context, is a figure of speech. Not meant to be insulting. It's similar to calling someone "son". If you feel uncomfortable with me using that particular word, I will cease to use it.

Secondly, I'm not really sure what the "unfun" combos are to you, so I would be delighted if you could enlighten me. A "fun"combo to me is Emrakul, the Aeons Torn + Xenagos, God of Revels or something similar (possibly Griselbrand in a R/G deck). Unfun= Deadeye Navigator + Great Whale . So kinda a fine line.

Sorry TheFoilAjani haven't slept tonight and I guess that rubbed me the wrong way, I thought you were talking down for some reason? Anyway, I totally agree about the thin line between a "fun" T&N; combo versus an "unfun" combo. I guess this thread could be a good discussion on what we all think is fun and what isn't. For example I love the Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite + Godhead of Awe combo, but then again I feel like most people find it a bit too oppressive.

An unfun combo to me is Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Triskelion because it is simply a win. I don't like the "exodia" effect if you follow my drift. I guess if you are curious to see what I find to be fun, you should check out my deck that I linked above. It is quite fun!

Ali from Cairo Yeah, I should probably go unconscious as well. I think Tooth and Nail is super subjective. I love swinging for 30 damage in modern with a tier crap deck, but others with tier 1 decks feel horrible. Infinite Whale mana can be used for good or evil. You could just Fireball or something, or you could Forcefeed with Fate Unraveler + Phelddagrif . Depends what you do with it I suppose.

I would grab Axebane Stag and Storm Crow and watch as my opponent goes to tears from terror.

Hoverguard Sweepers and Eternal Witness plus infinite mana can cast an infinite amount of tooth and nails, that would be fun.

Well, Reveillark and Karmic Guide can lead to some fun value turns while also being good combo pieces in general.

Also I think my favorite value Tooth and Nail is Avenger of Zendikar and Regal Force

I think it would be worth clarifying here - what it sounds like you want to grab are two creatures, which may or may not have interactions. But when you say "what fun combos can I get?" Well, you'll run into the same problem. If you're looking to dig for some value to shake the game up, then just pick two big creatures with interesting effects. But ic you're talking about game ending combos, it doesn't really matter. If Mike + Trike fits the deck the best, then stick with it. If Deadeye Navigator + Palinchron + Rune-Scarred Demon works best, go for that. But no matter what you get, if its game ending or puts the game into a lock that's very hard to get out of, then they all will be seen as dull. It doesn't matter how clever YOU think the combo is and how many pieces it needs to work, if it finishes the game with 3 or with 20 cards, who cares?

And even if you run combo pieces buy dont get them, it doesn't matter. At that point most people stop caring about the game because technically they e lost. At that point you're better off ending it and shuffling up for a new game instead of dragging the current one out under the guise of "I could have one and you all saw it but I chose not to." Dont be one of those people.

Honestly, if TaN combos are feeling stale then the best advice I can give you is take out Tooth and Nail instead. Now you have to work more for your combos which makes for a much more interactive game that everybody else will enjoy more.

Avenger of Zendikar + Regal Force is no insta-win, but draws you a whole lot of cards :)

Deadeye Navigator + Mystic Snake for the soft lock :). Then sit back and watch opponents squirm...

@ rockleemyhero that happened in our game last week but the guy also controlled a Seedborn Muse...it was disgusting.

Avenger of Zendikar + Craterhoof Behemoth ? A friend of mine runs that combo. If you have a method to give haste, it's game ending with plants.
