Hello everyone!

I am currently tuning my Gitrog Monster deck:

I'm not sure in which direction I should go to make it faster and more reliable. At first I had a list that focused on getting Squandered Resources or Rain of Filth , then (hopefully) drawing into land searching spells, which enable to generate more mana and draw more cards and so on...I managed to pull off one lucky kill on turn 3 with that method, but it all depended on getting Squandered Resources and Natural Balance and drawing into enough land searchers. I feel there are not enough spells that have a good "mana/land search" ratio to make this approach work well enough.

Another method to win is by having a free discard outlet and Dakmor Salvage. It's basically repeatedly milling the deck with the help of kozilek and generating infinite mana in the process with Lion's Eye Diamond.

What I'm unsure about is the rest of the deck. I have some disruption, artifact/enchantment destruction, Choke to annoy our mono U players, cheap mass discard...some Dredge stuff and Dread Return, several landfall Triggers, Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood Combo which work well with the lifegain from Zuran Orb and Retreat to Kazandu, some cycling in addition to the cycling lands and Archfiend of Ifnir...

It's all somehow nice but I'd like to hear some opinions if it's better to completely focus on one way to exploit the Gitrog Monster or if it's better to be more flexible and use cycling, dredge, reanimation and land searching/sacrificing equally.

As this is my 8th ready to play commander deck I don't have any more of the best mana artifacts left. The deck is land based, but the speed of Mana Crypt and all the moxes shouldn't be underestimated...I have thought about adding Null Rod or using proxies for the missing artifacts.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Doesn't really look like this deck needs help.

Since Gitrog has so much land shenanigans, in my own deck I forewent all the mana rocks entirely - they cloud up space for combo pieces.

I would go with the flexible version. Focusing on The Gitrog Monster only will limit your options and you will be in trouble if someone throw some kind of Arrest, Song of the Dryads, Imprisoned in the Moon effects on him. Also being versatile is better because you have access to more options most of the time... You should also play Krosan Grip. Great card especially against blue players.

VoidCaster113 do you mean ALL, or just the ones you don't have lying around anyway? I mean a Sol Ring is never missing, even in decks with Null Rod...the question is if I want to use proxies for Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond and Mana Crypt for example, or switch them between two decks. Mox Diamond would have a synergy with the commander, but I have all of them in other decks. I have a spare Null Rod though :)

I'm also not sure about the balance of disruption and combo pieces yet. Krosan Grip is surely good as you say Iron_Cube, but how much hate can the deck pack without hindering a smooth flow of a land sacking/drawing combo turn? Any suggestions as for what to cut? I think there's even another cheap discard outlet I should probably include, a snake for 1G but I can't remember the name...

Noose Constrictor ?
Not sure what to cut. Maybe a basic land, 38 lands should still be fine. Usually I'm playing at least 4-5 artifact/Enchantment removals in my decks. Unless I don't have access to it. The more you have, the better it is, but you can play some tutors to get them instead.

Yes, that's it!

I will try with fewer lands then...usually I play only 30-33 because of a huge amount of mana artifacts but here I have basically none. First I had 40 lands because of that but probably fewer are ok too.

And your mana curve is not that high, otherwise you wouldn't be playing Dark Confidant.
