Commander Deck Help forum

Hey guys so I thought of this combo the moment I saw Aetherflux Reservoir. The card that screams to go with this card is....Eternity Vessel. With any sort of ramp where you can put more than 1 land into play it allows you to kill 3-4 people depending on how many lands you can play on the turn the combo comes into effect. What do you guys think.

Well thanks. Now I have to build an extremely janky deck with this combo.
Actually, I think it could work. Both are fairly good on their own, especially in a lifegain or land shell. I'd say maybe Trostani, Selesnya's Voice as the commander, because it's a lifegain deck that provides land-ramp with green.

You can also run Glacial Chasm with Eternity Vessel to negate the upkeep cost so you cant be attacked.

Modern_Dave, that would only work for so long. Eventually, the upkeep cost will surpass the life you gain (or lose) from Eternity Vessel.

It would take around 5-7 turns for you to loose from the upkeep. If you cant win in that time frame once its down, you deserve to loose.

A better way to do this is the Melira, Sylvok Outcast + Kitchen Finks and sac outlet combo. See also Archangel of Thune + Spike Feeder. With tons of creature tutors, getting the critters shouldn't be too hard. Use Enlightened Tutor in or if you're use Fabricate, has Vampiric Tutor, Rune-Scarred Demon, and Demonic Tutor.

The easiest combo is Sydri, Galvanic Genius she has lifegain AND artifact synergies and her abilities make the Reservoir lethal to any number of players no matter what life totals are.
Make it a creature, give it lifelink, GG.
The minimum life total you would need is 47 because you can attack with the reservoir and gain 4. This is actually incredibly easy to set up.

Also, please remember everyone, (cause I have had 2738486362 people ask about it) you can't pay more life than you have so Phyrexian Unlife doesn't work here, you have to have at least 50 (51 if you want the ability to resolve) to use the second ability.
If you are using Eternity Vessel keep in mind also that "setting" a life total from a low number to a high number technically is gaining life as per the rules. Rhox Faithmender would trigger with Eternity Vessel to gain you twice the difference.

Any love for Platinum Angel? Little more costly than some options but doesn't stop you from paying the coat like Platinum Emperion.

DaftVader just like Phyrexian Unlife you can't pay more life than you have. Platinum Angel only does anything if you are exactly at 50

Actually Aetherflux Reservoir is a perfect piece for any storm combo deck, especially with Paradoxical Outcome. Just Play a shitload of mana artifacts and Tutors (probably best with and or ) and that's it.

Ohthenoises Platinum Angel only stops you losing the game, not changing life total. You can happily go down to -150 life taking out everybody else. (also coat = cost in previous post)

Again, the rules state that a player may NOT pay more life then they have so no, you cannot do that.

For reference:
117.3 A player cant pay a cost unless he or she has the necessary resources to pay it fully. For example, a player with only 1 life cant pay a cost of 2 life, and a permanent thats already tapped cant be tapped to pay a cost. See rule 202, Mana Cost and Color, and rule 602, Activating Activated Abilities.
I've been having this argument since Reservoir was spoiled lol.
Just because you can't lose doesn't mean you have the nessicary resources to pay for the ability. That would be like trying to tap an already tapped land for mana.

All these Idea's are great, and im sure there are other ways to do it more efficiently, But all of those other ways make you use different colors. What I like about this little combo is the fact that it doesn't need any colors to work. Its a 2 card combo that can go into any deck you want to put it in.

Well "any deck" is all well and good but to get up to 51 before playing the vessel is usually going to involve W for the most efficient lifegain options at the very least. Faithmender, Serra Ascendant, etc will all help you get there. After that colors can be splashed at the builders convienence.

While those two cards CAN go in any deck, they DON'T go in any deck besides lifegain decks. If you play anything besides 20 turn ZOMG GUIZ slugfests this means you are running Oloro, Ayli, Kambal, Karlov, or Trostani. This means you are playing a minimum of most likely . In which case why not run all of the white, black, or black and white cards that are better than Eternity Vessel for this purpose.
(I have never seen a Sydri deck in operation, so I don't know how likely they are to be over 50 life. If it is at all likely, than Aetherflux Reservoir is already a 1 card combo with your commander. This doest take away from my assertion that you are in already though.)

Sydri has a storm build that uses the reservoir and/or Tendrils to pop over 50.

G/W...life/land ramp. Azusa, oracle, exploration, mana ramp with rocks...could potentially do all this by turn 3-4 if you build the deck right
