Starter Deck: Blue Black Control

Casual UB (Dimir)

Sideboard

I have a lot of budget decks lying around here, but there aren't that many of them that are just pick-up-and-play for people learning the game. So I decided to make a deck series that filled that gap, with common effects and basic strategies that still provide enough depth to be interesting.

This one uses a suite of removal, discard, counterspells, and high-toughness creatures to obstruct your opponents and shut down their options and opportunities. Once that's done, the Sphinx of Jwar Isle and Bloodsoaked Altar provide evasive, resilient finishers to turn on the clock and bring the inevitable.

If you use this deck as a teaching aid, focus on threat recognition and spell sequencing. Reading the flow of play and assessing current and future problems is key here.
