Amonkhet Update —May 15, 2017

OUT:

IN:

After playing a few games with Vault, I have decided it has earned it's place in the deck. Not only does it allow us to dig deeper into the deck, but when you get three brick counters on it, we get to play the card for free. When used in conjunction with Sensei's Divining Top, we can guarantee we will hit a spell to cast, or even a land that we need. Combine with Paradox Engine and you can cast a bunch of your deck for free. This can definitely be game changing.

In order to make room for Vault, I have decided to cut Reunion. While red doesn't have very much as far as card draw goes, I feel like this was a safe cut to make. Tormenting Voice is a lot safer to play, as you only have to discard one card instead of two.

I'm back. Saw you updated to AER and I saw how badass your primer looks now. I am now sad with mine, but after 16 pages of code I doubt I'll change it, haha.

freakingShane: Glad you're back!

Thank you for thinking it's badass! Lol. Why are you sad about yours?

Because my tabs don't have cool banners behind them, haha. Like your "Why Play Daretti" and "Card Selection". It's flashy and nicely organized! I'd love to do that, but it would be a tooooonnnnn of work.

freakingShane: It's not too terrible to do. Lol.

===========================

So, played a game on MTGO and Paradox Engine is crazy. Especially with Chain Veil and Karn Liberated out. Eventually drew into Planar Bridge and could have put all permanents into play, but decided to just grab Lattice and then Vandalblast for the win.

Didn't think Engine/Bridge would stick, but I'm thinking they will.

LTmiller: I'm surprised you haven't said anything yet! You were in such a rush to see the changes. Lol.

Guerte sorry boss, been looking for them sweet inventions... Yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna pick those up real soon. They seems broken...

LTmiller: I had to give you grief, sorry. Lol. I just wanted to make sure you knew the update was out.

Are you getting Inventions for Daretti, or just Inventions in general? I'm waiting on my Inventions of Paradox Engine and Planar Bridge to arrive, then I should be all updated with mine.

Yes, I'm getting the ones that I know I'll use in multiple decks. I actually just built a cube yesterday with s**t I had laying around and I'm pretty invested in it with the latter being considered... by that I mean, my Underground Sea isn't just setting around now. lol. I've been messing with that and not really been trying to ball hard and get my inventions as I still have to get the Imperial Recruiter. I got the Workshop and the Bazaar.

January 30, 2017 12:55 p.m.

Guerte says... #9

LTmiller: That's awesome you got the Workshop and Bazaar. That must've hurt the wallet to get both at once. I spaced mine out by a few months or a year or something like that. Too long ago to remember. Lol.

And I'm sure I said it before, but Goblin Matron can be used as a substitute for the Recruiter until you can get one.

That is my current fix. :)

Did you ever flirt with having Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient in the deck?

February 3, 2017 2:57 a.m.

LTmiller says... #12

sdgundum990 I HAD it in mine. It's really not that great. It's just a worse Rings of Brighthearth in all honesty.

February 3, 2017 9:06 a.m.

Guerte says... #13

sdgundum990: Pretty much what LTmiller said. It's a MUCH worse Rings of Brighthearth. While it is a cheaper trigger to pay for, it has to be red mana, while colorless mana we will usually have in abundance. It loses the recurability that Rings has as its a creature and not an artifact, and his ability only works on artifacts, while Rings works with our Planeswalkers and lands as well.

Absolutely love the deck, running a Daretti myself. Just wondering if there's a specific reason you don't include Krark-Clan Ironworks. Also how do you interact with other graveyard based strategists or other combos. I know i need to run Torpor Orb and Tormod's Crypt just to stay ahead at my LGS atleast.

Hi there ! I also been playing daretti since he came out and I love the deck!i had a daretti deck, but at the moment im rebuilding him. I had to strip him for breya, and shes a great combo general.. and I sold some pieces but aether revolt came out and it had some gooodies! I saw your Primer and got some great idea of what cards to get from the new set. Thanks for that.

What do u think of Inkmoth Nexus, Sanctum of Ugin and Blinkmoth Nexus ??

+1 btw congrats on the recognition also if u have a min check out my old daretti pre kaladish Daretti's Toy Store let me know what u think. But the current version is definitely powered down a bit. Ill have it up soon.

Heart of Kiran seems a bit odd here - does it play well? I know it's crew cost is "free", but a 4/4 seems underwhelming in a deck where you can reanimate gigantic artifact threats.

February 16, 2017 12:08 p.m.

You should send me the Gauntlet that came out, since we're friends and all ;) ha ha!

Sorry for the delay in responses. Been dealing with some things in my personal life that have been taking up all of my attention. So, let's get into it!

JaronTheBaron: I don't run KCI simply because I don't necessarily want to be sacrificing artifacts to ramp myself. It does become decent when you get Daretti's ultimate, but it's not something I'd want to be doing on a regular basis. I tend not to worry about other graveyard- or combo-based decks. I do what I can to either slow everyone down or advance my board, but if they combo out then I guess that's that. Lol.

xXBuddhaXx: Thank you very much! Glad you got some ideas from my list. The Nexus (Nexi?) lands are fine additions if you want to run them. I may consider them myself, as I used to run them and they could be good again. I tried Sanctum and it just didn't do enough for me; I wasn't a fan of it.

Daedalus19876: I wanted to try Heart out as a defense I've card to help protect Daretti, but unfortunately it didn't perform very well. Neither did Pia's Revolution so I dropped them and put both Orbs back in.

SnowCoveredPlainswalker: Sorry my friend, I don't think I can get rid of that just yet. Lol.

Well the deck is still beautiful :) I love mono red and am happy to see you still own the deck.

Speaking of red, shameless plug to my deck tech (updated) ;)

One of my first few games with this deck went like this:

Ancient Tomb, Mox Diamond (pitch a mountain), Metalworker turn 1

Reveal 4 artifacts, play hedron archive, simulacrum, and daretti turn 2.

yeah......

alsozatch: The deck can do some pretty crazy things depending on what you draw into. One of the reasons I love the deck!

March 28, 2017 9:18 a.m.

Gonna get the new foil Homeward Path?

March 29, 2017 12:11 p.m.

Guerte says... #23

SnowCoveredPlainswalker: Well of course! I'm just going to wait until Amonkhet so I can get what I want from there at the same time.

March 30, 2017 12:11 p.m.

Awesome! Just so you know, Sequestered Stash is misspelled as Sequesterd Stash in your primer so the card isn't pulling up :)

There's no reason not to run Ugin's Nexus, extra turn for 5 mana??? Without any draw back???

Can't forget Ugin's Nexus + Mirrorworks
