Hi guys, I'm trying to build a stax style deck for standard and would love your feedback. The main idea of the deck is to disrupt their hand early game (usually take cards that they would play on curve) with the discard spells: Duress, Harsh Scrutiny,Implement of Malice and Unburden. As the opponent gets the idea that they need to cast things before they get discarded, I start board-wiping creatures later game with Fumigateor Bontu's Last Reckoning. I will also try to exile any annoying planeswalkers or enchantments with Ixalan's Binding. The win conditions of this deck are the curses Torment of Scarabs and Cruel Reality. Lastly I am using treasure map because there isn't much draw cards in B/W unless I want to pay life which I think might be detrimental as this is a slow deck. Also I could use the treasures to ramp into my bigger spells.

I swapped out Fatal Push for Harsh Scrutinywhich I'm a bit worried about because I've never played black in this standard format without push before. I made this decision because I don't have that many ways of triggering revolt and I would rather the creatures not enter the battlefield in the first place.

For the sideboard I have Solemnity to slow down energy decks, Ashes of the Abhorrent to prevent graveyard plays after discard and Trespasser's Curse for token decks. Kambal, Consul of Allocation and Herald of Anguish is mostly for a B/U matchup or if I suspect my opponent has sideboarded out their cheap creature removal. Lastly Cast Out is for decks that play planeswalkers or for decks playing white that can in turn cast out my enchantments.

Things I am considering changing and would love your feedback on:

  • Do you think it is likely that opponents will be attacking each turn with all their creatures? If so, would Settle the Wreckage be a better board wipe than Bontu's Last Reckoning?
  • Apart from Field of Ruin, I don't have anything to deal with Approach of the Second Sun. Should I sideboard Lost Legacy?
  • I don't think this deck has a chance of beating Ramanup because it is too slow and Ramunup usually doesn't care about having an empty hand when they have Bomat Courier, Hazoret the Fervent and are pretty good at topdecking. So should I just accept a Ramunup matchup as a loss or should I sideboard in something like Authority of the Consuls?
  • Has anyone played Solemnity before, is it any good against energy or is it too slow?
  • Would Crook of Condemnation be better than Ashes of the Abhorrent especially playing against The Scarab God ?
  • Should I have more win conditions?
  • Should I have more board wipes?
  • Should I run Fatal Push?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!
