0.2: Rise from the ashes —Nov. 2, 2016
Haven't played the deck recently (because it was missing a lot of key cards), but finally have enough new material to take it for another spin. I've decided that my number one priority for the deck is making it into a storm deck. Most Mizzix decks I see are combo - Firemind's Foresight for an untap effect, Reiterate, and Lightning Bolt - but that isn't a strategy that particularly appeals to me. I want to actually win with storm cards. Of course, that will require a lot of cards I don't currently have (cheap card draw, rituals, storm cards, etc), but it's a solid goal I can work towards.
Anyway, onto swaps...
-Tormod's Crypt - will be adding something back into this slot eventually. I want some form of grave hate in the deck, but I'm not a big fan of Crypt.
-Call the Skybreaker - too slow and expensive. Better mana sinks exist.
-Repeal - single-target bounce is a bit weak, IMO.
-Steam Augury - letting opponents choose is bleh.
-Illusory Ambusher - too situational. Better to spend my mana on card draw directly.
-Interpret the Signs - I want to lower the curve, so will whiff too often.
-Rite of the Raging Storm - very precon-y card.
-Dominate - could be good, but feels like there are more efficient options if theft is really what I want to do.
-Mirror Match - too situational. I'm not a fan of fogs, let alone expensive ones. Clones often also lose combat due to equipment or +1/+1 counters.
-Meteor Blast - only killing a maximum toughness of 4 is an issue.
-Cackling Counterpart - the deck is fairly light on creatures to copy.
-3 Mountain
+Turnabout - hey, it's a way to generate mana! Can do other things in a pinch too.
+Mind's Desire - a storm card! Prevalence of X spells makes it a bit weaker, so will need to address that at some point.
+Metallurgic Summonings - turns spells into threats, and can also act as recursion occasionally.
+Wild Ricochet - it's a sweet card that I would like to test out some more.
+Confirm Suspicions - countermagic plus card draw.
+Past in Flames - another card that works well in storm - cast your rituals, then flash them back. Obviously weaker in the current version of the deck, but still worth testing.
+Inexorable Tide - lets me get experience counters from every spell, not just expensive ones.
+Swan Song - cheap countermagic. Not planning to make this a control deck, but interaction is good.
+Thassa, God of the Sea - mostly for card filtering.
+Curse of the Swine - mass removal, in the form of exile.
+Trail of Evidence - mana sink and card draw
+Pore Over the Pages - free card draw
+Prismatic Lens - not the strongest mana rock, but filtering is relevant.
