Tier 1/2/3/4 updates and comments —Aug. 8, 2016
Sorry for the late update!
Did some quick changes according to what was reflected in the discussion. Moved Yosei, the Morning Star, Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer, Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant Flip, Ojutai, Soul of Winter, Lu Xun, Scholar General down to tier 4. Moved Mayael the Anima up to tier 3, General Tazri up to tier 2, and Arcum Dagsson down to 2.
I remember seing a General Tazri list but I can't seem to find it... Anyone?
Also, I remember some discussion about Dralnu, Lich Lord. If there is no further opinon on him, I think it is now possible to move him up tier 3.
Thanks people for being so awesome and contributing to this list!
Lets take em from the top
Swan Song was in the deck. Underpreformed greatly. Spell Pierce is a solid idea. Worth including.Mental Misstep is allready on the list of cards I'm considdering (can be found at the bottom of the deck discription)
I belive you are half-way missing the point of Azami if you think Negate and Arcane Denail are better than Cryptic or Comandeer - really, the latter is a champ in this deck as pitching a few cards to it has proven to be a genuine lifesaver. There's a lot of green/red aggro. Tapping everything instantly to buy a round or two has gotten me out of a few pitches. Granted, other games it's just sitting in my hand, but the emergency utility it provides makes it an auto-include for me
Chain of Vapor - Solid idea. Liking it.
Mystical Tutor - was in the deck. Was cut as it did nothing
Mystic Remora - Simmilar to Rhystic Study or Consecrated Sphinx. Seems good, but doesent contribute to comboing out IMO. Ill add it to the maybe-pile, though
Why would I play Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip? What does he do for the deck? The plainwalker version is worse than having a vanilla 1/1 wizard out. Besides, having multiple plainswalkers in this deck is a bad idea as I wont be able to protect them
Looking at the decks for Azami on the site, it doesent seem like there's a common concensus on how to play her :-)

Well, for sure it is difficult to agree on how to play those control decks, really... Blue is a really good mono-color, and there are many options available to it... I agree with Ohthenoises, Azami should be the nect brew target of the cEDH community :P

Winther: I don't mean to be harsh, but I think you have fallen into a trap I have often found myself in in that you are overvaluing cards you have had success with in the past. Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip is amazing with High Tide and in general. Flashback is kind of a big thing and you don't need to protect him you loot and use his flashback and win the game most of the time. He is an absolute autoinclude. Mana doublers are casual cards. In the time you spent getting them on the field you could have won the game already or came close. Palinchron is only really viable in a reanimator shell due to its prohibitive cost. While it is true that there isn't a consensus on tapped out that does not say much as 1% of the decks on this site are actually competitively built. CEDH is essentially vintage lite. Think about it. Do vintage or legacy decks play Gauntlet of Power or Palinchron in mono blue?

I am actually interested if the cEDH community thinks Docent of Perfection Flip is any good, if Azami runs a ton of counters the ability to make those counters cantrip AND provide a token swarm/blocker strategy seems worth the 5 mana.
Yes it competes for Azami's cmc but that's an easy choice IMO, play Azami then play Docent with
up and then you can draw if you have to Spell Pierce something.

Point taken. I wasent opposed to take out the mana dubbeling - whole reason I asked for replacement cards in the first place. I still dont think Jace is a paticular good fit however . i.e. Snapcaster does what he does, plus more. Did play him for about a month. He did absolutly nothing. Not opposed to giving him a secound shot, but I'll reserve a healthy level of sceptism on the guy :-)
Cheers for the advice though. Dont think you came off paticularly harsh either

Glad to hear it. I suspect if you build around high tide and other fast mana cards you will see his value but I may be wrong. I don't play azami so perhaps I am biased for him based on his value in my own decks.

Nothing feels like cheating the system more than unearthing Jace, activating him, and flipping him out from under the unearth trigger then flashing back something like Victimize. Go go sidisi haha.
Jace is an amazing card. Something to note btw, if you tap him with Azami you don't have to flip it discard so he's got that flexibility.
Also, if someone manages to graveyard your USZ you can flash it back and have it shuffle back in. You can also flash back X spells and have X actually be a number other than 0, unlike Snapcaster.

I did realize that you could tap Jace with Azami :p My point was (is) that a multible of wizards does that and more. Jace is superb if you get to block and flip him against something large without trample and provides a shitton of utility in other decks. I have yet to see him do anything noteworthy in Azami to merrit him as an auto include, however
That said, he's back in the deck again - for now, anyhow. Giving him another month and we'll see how it goes

Swan Song under performed greatly? That's odd. It's one of the single best counterspells in cEDH after Force of Will, Mana Drain, and possibly Pact of Negation. It's a 1-mana hard counter that stops most of the biggest threats in the format (Ad Nauseam, Doomsday, Necropotence, Food Chain, Dread Return, etc) with no real downside.
Out of curiosity, what does your meta look like? Is it all creature and artifact combo or something?
July 27, 2016 3:28 p.m.
Song usually just sat in my hand throughout the game. Whenever I drew it, I allways had better options for stopping whatever was being thrown my way through creatures or other counterspells with no downside. Not inclined to disagree though. Swan Song is a good card. I just never needed it when playing the deck which was the reason for its exclution
I have two metas. One is casual'ish with Narset, stax and R/G aggro being popular as of late. The other is the local turnament environment where you see a bit of everything
I did take your advice on removing the mana dubbeling effects (High Tide aside). Helped a lot on the CMC so thanks for that :)

Teferi Chain Veil combo is so consistent it's boring. Not sure if I like my deck being tier 1.
July 28, 2016 10:20 p.m. Edited.
All the tier 1 decks are pretty consistent. It's one of the things that makes them tier 1.
July 29, 2016 2:50 p.m.
I should have expanded on that, my bad. Was just leaving the parking lot after winning an EDH tournament and didn't word it the way I wanted to.
What i find boring is that it isn't really a true "infinite" combo, and can technically fizzle, so you actually have to sit there and play it out for 15-20 minutes until you get 30-60 chain veil activations and draw into ugin.
I do like how powerful and consistent it is, but the actual finishing combo is really boring. If there was a kill that had the power of the chain veil, i'd switch to it in a heartbeat.
July 29, 2016 3:03 p.m. Edited.
I've never fizzled with Teferi. How did you manage to do that?
July 29, 2016 3:40 p.m.
I didn't, I'm just saying it's possible. I just find the whole process of comboing off, which takes a good 15-20 minutes, tedious.
July 29, 2016 3:47 p.m. Edited.
kyuuri117, You're probably ordering the abilities inefficiently. I worked out the math way back when, and if you use all of the extra chain veil stacks to +1 Teferi when you recast him and then start -1 looping him on your last activation, it nets you the most mana, and it's actually impossible to fizzle assuming no one disrupts you. You'll be allowed to shortcut your actions since the exact number of activations per recast is known ahead of time (there's a formula).
It's not like four horseman where you might whiff and not hit a Narcomoeba before hitting Emrakul, each loop is a predictable quantity.

this list is pretty dang good however putting dralnu as a tire 4 is sacrilege he may seem bad but ask anyone thats seen him in action and they would disagree.
July 30, 2016 1:23 a.m.
This certainly isn't the first time Dralnu has been brought up. Maybe it is finally time to move him up to Tier 3.
July 30, 2016 4:23 a.m.
because blasphemous act (only time plays in the background) in all fairness if u don't own/ have seen him played he seems rly bad XD

I may have found an Azami list. It has some head scratchers but on the cEDH subreddit he explains reasonings for some of them. Either way it's the closest I've seen to tuned.
August 1, 2016 11:36 a.m.
I have been playing Edric, Spymaster of Trest for roughly 5 years and have a fairly fine tuned list. I can upload it to Tappedout and create a description later today if an Edric list is still something people are looking for. I would love to have the feedback/help of this community in refining it even further and I believe that together we can create a truly phenomenal deck.

NarejED well we are missing a decklist for Azami, maybe that should be the next cEDH build target? Lol
I've been trolling around for Azami cards for a while and the field is just too spread for me to make much sense of it.
