grixsis crule control

Standard*

I am hoping to bring this to the next FNM I go to. The point of the deck is to control the board while my baord state builds up slowly. I am trying to keep this somewhat budget and any suggestions would be very helpful.

Hello!

Ultimately, I like the way this deck looks, however, I do not know much about standard(modern player at heart) so take what I have to say with a grain of salt, but here goes nothing...

I know one major deck archetype in standard is tokens. Forcing a player to sacrafice a creature and a planeswalker is great value in To the Slaughter which I feel is your strongest card against them, however, you have a ton of single target creature removal which against tokens just isn't going to cut it. To fix this, how about adding Languish?? Killing off all tokens simultaneously would just be a complete shut down, and yes they can be remade but that takes time, so Languish in the least gives you an extra 3 ish turns. The next suggestion to combat tokens is Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet for the lifegain and to fill your board, but you had commented that you were going to pick these up soon anyway, so i won't go in depth on her.

Along with Languish being huge(I believe), I feel Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip would also be a huge help. If you want the madness/delirium enabling from Reckless Scholar then just go with jace until he rotates out. He is so much stronger than scholar for one less mana, but if it comes down to card prices and affordability go with scholar, especially since Jace, Telepath Unbound  Flip is about to rotate out, although he can flash back your languishes to handle the second wave of tokens.

Another strong card that comes to mind is Chandra, Flamecaller. She is so strong for her +1 as well as her 0 being an amazing madness/delirium enabler. It's 6 mana, but, you have enough removal to last until then and force her down, giving you 6 damage per turn with her +1 and a fresh hand if need be. I personally dislike her since she's a 6 mana card for only 4 loyalty, but her, i play modern... i'm used to Tarmogoyfs and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn + Nahiri, the Harbinger xD.

On a last note, perhaps Kozilek's Return would work as another board wipe that WON'T hit your own Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Thing in the Ice  Flip or Goblin Dark-Dwellers. However, it is significantly weaker in this deck for several reasons.One-- It's -2/-2, not -4/-4 obviously, which hinders you a little bit...Two-- you're not playing any eldrazi spells, so you don't receive the bonus -5/-5.

Again, take what i have to say with a grain of salt since i don't play standard, but those are just my initial thoughts on the deck. Goodluck in the future!

Squirrelbacon thanks for the suggestions it does help but the thing is i don't really have all the cards in the main and its somewhat budget I'm hoping to play the original deck (or something similar) from the pro tour by the end of summer.Languish does seem good maybe put one in main and rest in side i was thinking about switching the To the slaughter to Ruinous Path and making it three or four just for tokens (to kill a nissa or gideon)good chance i might take out fire craftwhat are your thoughts on this

Personally I actually like To the Slaughter, however, if you you wish to try Ruinous Path I don't see anything wrong with the plan either. I've never liked Firecraft to be completely honest so I'm fairly biased, but I'd say it's safe to remove since you still have enough single target removal I feel. Maybe that frees Room up for main board Languish or Chandra. Up to you though ultimately. On the note of single target removal, I do feel that firecraft is better than Ultimate Price (in this deck at least) since Fircraft can hit planeswalkers as well as creatures, so maybe the Ultimate Prices get taken out first. Great card, but there's just so much single target removal in here I think thats the better option.
