Massive Overhaul —Feb. 18, 2015
Huge update on this deck. The build focuses more on ramping in the early game and keeping a clear board while using permission spells to make sure Scion hits the field at the most optimal time to secure an instant-win combo. However, that's just when I want to be a dick.
I went a little lighter on the reanimation and thus some dragons ended up coming out, but now I am looking to acquire Worldgorger Dragon for infinite mana with Animate Dead.
The landbase was also upgraded, to complete my set of Shocks, I just need a Steam Vents and a Stomping Ground. Then I will be working towards Zendi Fetches (holding off for a couple sets because of the chance they could get reprinted).
And finally, some choice protection spells came out, namely Boros Charm
, that really weren't doing much except sitting in my hand. With the release of Silumgar, the Drifting Death, I can now activate scion's ability to directly give him hexproof, which there was no other dragon before him that even had hexproof, making him a really valuable card for this deck. It also pushes me to grab Volrath's Stronghold to be able to get repeat value, recurring Silumgar back to topdeck so I can activate scions ability and give him hexproof again.
A big P.S: Since I know a lot of traffic is coming to this deck because of my Advertise your deck thread, I want to clear up confusion if there is any. The deck description is dated. It's not relevant anymore and I probably won't update it for a while. Sorry, that's just how it is. But any time I make a major update to the deck, you'll find reasonings (hopefully) and exchanges that were made. This update was really big because I procrastinated so long, so I didn't try to keep track of cards I was taking out, there was just a lot of them and I didn't feel like it.
Anyway, thanks for checking out the deck. Discussion reset.

My favorite win option with Scion is Utvara Hellkite + Scourge of Valkas ;)

If you have the money, Sword of Feast and Famine is another way to combo with Hellkite Charger , as well as just giving a boost to a creature, discard, and being able to cast twice as much stuff.

For some better ways to grab land, how about Kodama's Reach , which is better than Skyshroud Claim , and also Rampant Growth , which is just a generally good card.

How can you say that Kodama's Reach is better than Skyshroud Claim ?
Both sorcery.
Reach is 3 skyshroud is 4. Ok it costs one more, lets look at the effect.
Claim gets 2 Forests (read shocklands) UN-tapped into PLAY.
Reach gets 2 BASIC lands one comes into play tapped, the other doesn't come into play at all.
Da hell?

It's the same with Rampant growth, enters tapped and also only grabs basics.

Are you sure that the combo with Moltensteel Dragon and the Blight Dragon works? Does't activating it the second time eliminate any lingering affects?

Nope, it works. You add the buff effect to scion, remember, not Moltenteel. So it stays on Scion until end of turn, who just happens to (after you allow his ability to resolve a second time) be Skythirix, and it goes through with infect,
Manipulating the stack is a lot of fun haha.

You NEED Channel the Suns for the turn 2-3 kill also Scourge of Valkas +Rite of Replication = 216 dammage for 9 mana not bad in my book

I'm not sure what you mean by I need that card for the turn 2-3 kill?
Also, that's a great combo. And I have a rite of replication in my binder. I'll try and fit it in.

Turn 1 Sol Ring turn 2 Channel the Suns scion turn 3 dig up Moltensteel Dragon for the win. And if you had a mox (any mox Mox Diamond would work) or a Lotus Petal you could Channel the Suns turn 1 and then moltensteel turn 2 for the win

Patriarch's Bidding is the high nut in any tribal reanimator build.

Fun Combo. Utvara Hellkite + Scourge of Valkas + Progenitor Mimic making copies of either of them. I run a very similar deck. It has had amazing success, http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/thar-be-dragons-here/

Moltensteel dragon doesn't win the game itself you need to pay 42 life and still survive. Your opponent also has to not be able to block. Which would probably never happen, Kozelek. That's why you need skythirix and scion.
DirtyxDevil that's why bear umbra is in here. But the sword is probably going to be it's replacement if I find myself with one.
WreckedHim that's probably coming in, any idea what to take out?
thomaspryde It's possible, but I don't really like progenitor mimic
SwaggyMcSwagglepants That card is bad even in this deck :| and the list is showing up fine

34 life and most ppl can't block 1st second or third turn and yes I've done second and third turn kills with my deck A Dragon by any other name

Oh yeah I forgot to take moltensteels p/t into the equation, it's still really risky but it's worth trying out.
April 23, 2014 11:38 a.m.
I would recommend Dragon Tyrant , as you can use it in the same manner that you use Skittles, in combination with Moltensteel Dragon

I had him in here earlier but he was wasting a slot, as I only really need the combos that I have. I'm actually fighting for spots as it is lol

No Dragon Tyrant !?
