This is an experimental mill deck
I see people all the time making mill decks out of
Sphinx's Tutelage
. they're usually made by newer players, and i've probably spent the better part of 10 hours giving my own tutelage (see what i did tho) on how to make a proper mill deck. I will say that i totally understand why
Sphinx's Tutelage
seems to draw newer players to it. it's cheap, it's straightforward, and its effect on the game is pretty strong. I find its problem is that it forces you to play like a delver deck with a 3 mana delver. if it was 1 or even 2 mana, it would be significantly stronger. either way, it's a card i've always liked, and i'm pretty happy to get to tinker with it.
This deck is far from tier 1. It's a little more inconsistent than id like and not quite fast enough against competitive decks, but it's a solid build that can take games out of left field, and i find it makes for a great learning tool and starting point for newer players looking to play mill. If you want a much stronger version of mill, i'll have one up eventually, but you should be looking into versions if that's something you're interested in. my own favorites usually include Mesmeric Orb and Ensnaring Bridge, And i've also always had a soft spot for mill decks that inlcude discard mechanics. Even though they never seem to fair as well, decks with Liliana of the Veil and Thoughtseize just make me smile.
If i could give any one piece of advice to someone building mill, it would be to avoid cards that only mill one card. things like the ingest mechanic, Ghoulcaller's Bell, Codex Shredder, and
Millstone
never get the job done in decks like this.
I intend to expand upon this description at a later date, and also link a version. In addition i will be including a list of other cards that i did not put in this list that you could potentially run in this style of deck.
