A deck I'm looking at for Modern. A turn one
Bloodchief Ascension
is really good. All the redundancy in burn lets you turn it on pretty quickly.
Magma Jet
filters while triggering the Ascension.
Goblin Guide
is great turn one, less so later, but that's why you save your burn.
Sign in Blood
offers a little flexibility, either to draw you more cards, or trigger the Ascension.
Dark Tutelage
is my poor man's Bob (which is awesome to play against, free Ascension counters ftw), nice because the average CMC is low.
Blood Moon
is obviously just a great card in this format, and doesn't really hurt you that much because you really only need the one black mana early to get things going. Despite the combo with
Mindcrank
, I find that most of the wins come from just an Active Ascension making them kill themselves with combat or noncreature spells. I haven't gotten much chance to play it yet, but I really like the sideboard
Infest
on paper. They still kill
Etched Champion
, and by the time you can cast it against other aggro decks, your creatures weren't really gonna do you much good anyway.
Looking for feedback in general, but if you know ways to make it more budget without cutting down on power much, that would be particularly appreciated.
