Flames of the Firebrand

Sorcery

Flames of the Firebrand deals 3 damage divided as you choose among one, two, or three targets (creatures, players and/or planeswalkers).

The Denizen could work really well in the one drop spot, I'll give him a whirl and see how he works out. I'll have to try the arsonist and Flames of the Firebrand as well, thanks for the suggestions!

also, Flames of the Firebrand might work better than Insult / Injury, although it does actually cost money.

backinstep on Talrand Patience Deck

Wow, thank you puxing!

I have a few Highland Lake cards, so I was thinking of replacing Evolving Wilds with them.

I didn't know about Enigma Drake. I have been relying on counter spells to keep Spellheart Chimera alive; that trample ability is sick.

If only Flames of the Firebrand was an instant. Burn spells seem to work quite well for me, so thank you for pointing out alternatives!

Agreed, Stormtide Leviathan is amazing. Don't worry, it's not going anywhere!

One other thing I'm looking for is more ways to draw cards, especially as a result of playing a counterspell or something like that, any suggestions?

puxing on Talrand Patience Deck

I never liked playing Divination early game when i had a counter up. Think Twice is a bit more expensive in the short run but when you think about it you would only spend unused mana on it.
It is also 2 mana cheaper when you have a goblin out. Also you get 2 drakes instead of 1 when you have talrand out!

Evolving Wilds are also not that good in a 2 colour deck. Izzet Guildgate is far better as it gives you both of your colours at the same speed evolving wilds gives you 1.
Or even better Swiftwater Cliffs for some small lifegain.

I don't know about what you play against with your friends.
A suggestion could be Enigma Drake

The big difference between Spellheart Chimera and Enigma Drake is that Spellheart Chimera has trample but Enigma Drake has 1 more health. This could be the difference between surviving a Searing Spear and dying to it.

Talking about Searing Spear , there is also Incinerate if you would like more burn spells.
Other burn spells that you might want are Magma Jet or Lightning Strike

The hardest part about deckbuilding is taking cards out. Flames of the Firebrand and Unsummon both seem to be a little less powerfull than the rest.

Also you better keep playing that kick ass Stormtide Leviathan ;)

Commune with Lava Interesting Psuedo draw, fun to test at least Incandescent Soulstoke Flamekin Harbinger Sunflare Shaman Magmatic Chasm Again pretty interesting to test, not sure if actually good Flames of the Firebrand might have enough split damage with electrickery and savage alliance, just quite good though

Jewishman on Really, really undying deck

Bovine073 considering the deck focuses on undying it makes a lot of sense to have Retribution of the Ancients, not only does it allow him to bounce back all previously sacrificed/destroyed creatures again for , you can consider it a manual copy of Flames of the Firebrand but instead of for 3 dividable it's for Damage = #of +1/+1 counters removed. Kitchen Finks isn't worth it at all when Geralf's Messenger gives a 3/2 undying for and deals 2 damage every time he enters play

I would take a full 4 of Geralf's Messenger and Protean Hydra for use with Retribution of the Ancients

Umm, Annihilating Fire, Ash Zealot (maybe, I dont know how much it cost at the time), Banners Raised, Brimstone Volley, Faithless Looting, Fervent Cathar, Flames of the Firebrand, Foundry Street Denizen, Furious Resistance, Guttersnipe, Krenko's Command, Legion Loyalist, Lightning Mauler, Madcap Skills, Pillar of Flame, Reckless Waif  Flip, Reverberate, Riot Piker, Searing Spear, Skullcrack, Thunderbolt, Vexing Devil, Increasing Vengeance, Young Pyromancer, Lightning Strike, Boros Reckoner, Burning-Tree Emissary, and probably a lot more that I'm missing. That's only some of the better cards I found under 3 cmc. I'm so jealous I wasn't playing back then, burn looks like it was so good...

Did you consider burn spells with damage that can be distributed as you wish?
Forked Bolt, Avacyn's Judgment, Arc Lightning/Flames of the Firebrand, Electrolyze
While they are not popular, they can net you card draw on the swans, and deal damage to relevant targets beside it (also they don't kill the swans - unlike bolt), and can be used to remove multiple creatures with 1 card.

In my humble opinion permanent based draw are nearly always better if you play control.
Also some equipment that gives, hexproof & boost the toughness of of swans would probably make a big difference.
