Maybeboard

I had never seen any of the Splicer cards until MM17 was announced. Now I wonder what I could make of them. "Linear/Tribal and not necessarily expensive" is my jam.

Now, obviously a deck like this can get expensive fast. For instance, Tangle Golem doesn't cost much money... but the infrastructure necessary to enable it -- specifically, genuine dual lands that count as Forests and something else, like Breeding Pool and Savannah -- costs an awful lot. So no affinity for me. Instead, I took the combo dontpanic503 suggested and snuck four Shape Anew s and a single Darksteel Colossus in. This provides a nice finisher in case the (maximum of) 20 Golem Tokens I can summon aren't enough.

I have to say that I'm still not satisfied with this deck. When I saw the Splicers, my dream was the same as always: a deck that would go both tall and wide. As it exists right now, this deck doesn't do that; I don't have any meaningful creature presence until the fourth turn (unless I draw one of my four Blade Splicer s). Additionally, Shape Anew + Darksteel Colossus is far too consistent. Yes, I am complaining that this deck wins most of the time. Why? Because my main objective, as a deck designer, is to create decks that are fun to play against... and "11/11 Indestructible on Turn 4" is pretty much the opposite of that. I'd like to rehabilitate this into something more conventional, though I'm not sure how.
