Floodgate

Creature — Wall

Defender (This creature can't attack.)

When Floodgate has flying, sacrifice it.

When Floodgate leaves the battlefield, it deals damage to each nonblue creature without flying equal to half the number of Islands you control, rounded down.

Hey there!

I would go for slimming down each category, rather than just creatures/control.

Some low drop creatures can be worth running in the right context, but some of yours can probably be cut: turns 1-2, I'd much rather be casting things like Ponder or Brainstorm to prepare for future turns than drop a Faerie Seer which isn't terribly impactful. Some of your low CMC creatures can stay, like Cloudfin Raptor which is an absolute beast, but if I were you I'd just playtest some of them and see what you like best.

There's no such thing as "too much card draw", as long as you don't deck out or die due to not doing other things that actually win you the game. A good thing to do in blue is make sure your card draw spells are instants, so you can hold up mana for a counterspell if you need it, then if your opponents change phases to their end steps without doing anything crazy, you can cast a Brainstorm / Deliberate.

Draining Whelk can be really good, depending on what you counter. It's a 6 drop Counterspell & 4/4 + flier in one card slot. Only downside is the steep CMC.

Some things you could trim: Wingspan Mentor - a bit slow and win-more: if you have enough creatures out for its counters to matter, you were probably dealing good damage without it.

Charix, the Raging Isle - same CMC as your commander, so you'll probably want to cast your commander instead 9/10 times you draw it.

Floodgate - as above, also you have better control options.

Sludge Monster - slow, not quite a fit here.

Thryx, the Sudden Storm - a bit better of a fit, but still not quite worth it.

Windstorm Drake - small toughness boost is not worth the cost.

Sphinx of Jwar Isle - sometimes it can be nice to know what's coming up next in your library, but this isn't worth the cost and top deck manipulation doesn't really have much synergy here.

You could cut a few of your worse counterspells: Intervene, Crypsis, Nullify.

lastly, with your average CMC, I think you could comfortably cut 4-5 Islands.

Hope that helps. Sorry for the wall of text, but I wanted to explain some of my reasoning on cuts and such.

GL, HF!

ooh, good pairing choice

I'm just a fan of it in general - some of the weirder interactions like with Floodgate in a mono-blue deck (ie, keep reanimating itself, then triggering, nuking itself, because it's now black, rinse repeat).

DandiCze Thank you for giving feedback for the deck. Floodgate , Scourge of Fleets , Willbreaker , and Chamber of Manipulation seem like excellent additions to the deck that I had not thought of. Verity Circle and also seems like a good add, but I think that I would need to playtest more with them to see if they could find a permanent place in the deck. The Kederekt Leviathan has a good etb ability, but I think that it impacts us too much for it to be good. Especially when a decent chunk of our mana comes from mana rocks I think that other players would be able to rebuild their boards a lot faster, leaving us in the dust.

Awesome commander! I don't think I have ever run across another deck centered around Floodgate before. Your potential for board control is really great!

Some cards that come to mind that you may want to consider are Symbol of Unsummoning and straight up Unsummon - Just some more cards to help activate your commander.

As far as your issue with flying and blue creatures goes, the only cards I can think of that might help are Riptide and maybe Fade Away. Not a whole lot of other sweeper effects for blue pauper...

Thank you, Snips500. Pauper EDH is great. I think you're dead on about Ghostly Flicker; it is one of my favorite cards in the deck. I also have Displace and Siren's Ruse that do the same thing. Icy Prison has a delay but also returns Floodgate without needing to recast. Are there any other spells with the same effect that I have missed?

I really like this deck and kudos for making a Pauper EDH deck. I myself play pauper EDH with my friends and think that its cool that other people are also making decks for the format. What I would suggest is adding more flicker cards like Ghostly Flicker to use the Floodgate whipe but still be able to keep your commander to use another time without needing to pay. +1 from me

Hey thanks for the detailed comment! I see what you're saying with some of those cards, the main reason I'm not running Whim of Volrath and similar cards is because, while they're great for making my hate cards more generic, they only change the text, which doesn't affect cards in the same way as the Blind Seer. They were in the deck at some point but were cut to raise the power level, replaced for things like Consecrated Sphinx.

Vodalian Mystic was unfortunately cut for similar reasons.

The Scrying Sheets is definitely a good idea, and Floodgate is absolutely hilarious and, ideally, a glorious way to board wipe without the bounce that mono blue is famous for.

Paradox Engine is a huge target that might save my staxy artifacts from being targeted but I personally dislike it for this deck, mostly because the lack of infinite combos make it only "alright" in my mind. If I play it and win, it's a wincon but if I play it and nothing much happens except the deck stax harder, which I fear will happen frequently, it will feel dead or unwanted while in hand. Meanwhile, I could use that slot for more silly colour shenanigans. So personal preference but, again, thank you for your well thought out and interesting comment!
