Colfenor, the Last Yew

Legendary Creature — Treefolk Shaman

Vigilance, reach

Whenever Colfenor, the Last Yew or another creature you control dies (is put into the graveyard from the battlefield), return up to one other target creature card with less toughness from your graveyard to your hand.

Wave of Reckoning and soon to-be-released Baldin, Century Herdmaster would be powerful additions. Also, how about Colfenor, the Last Yew for a little recursion?

I took a look at 5 of the decks and to me they all have the exact same problems that pre-cons have, so it is unsurprising that your more experienced opponent is winning with pre-cons. Your mana curves are outrageously high with too many lands and not enough ramp.

Comparing your Colfenor, the Last Yew deck to my Ghave, Guru of Spores deck that has been purposely powered down to not stomp pre-cons and my Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons deck since you have access to at least all the cards I run in those decks. You have an average CMC of 3.69 compared to 3.64 (Ghave) and 3.11 (Hapatra). This makes it so that you need more mana to do anything.

You run 37 lands and 5 ramp (I am not counting anything over 4 mana, as that is what you are ramping into, not when you want to ramp) as compared to 33/19 (Ghave) and 33/11 (Hapatra). For my own counts I didn't count anything over 3 mana or the altars. This makes it so that you are waiting longer to get your mana.

Depending on how you want to go wide, there are a lot of good commander options.

If you’re really feeling the tokens/counters route, I think Ghave, Guru of Spores could give you the synergy you need. It can make tokens and put creatures in the graveyard while pumping other creatures or itself up.

If you want more direct graveyard interaction (pulling creatures back from the dead or benefiting from creatures in the yard), I would suggest either Colfenor, the Last Yew or Karador, Ghost Chieftain. With Colfenor, you’re basically getting to bring something back from the yard every time something dies, and with Karador, you get a discount (handy for commander tax) for every creature you have in the graveyard, with the option to cast something from the graveyard too.

Hopefully that helps point you in the right direction!

I think yo can add Colfenor, the Last Yew as your alternative commander or even make colfenor your commander

Nice Deck! I tried to build my own Treefolk-Tribal, but never got my hands on the Cards i needed. Whats youre thougth about Faeburrow Elder for Ramp? And since you run 3 Colors you could also incloud Umbral Mantle which goes infinity on Faeburrow Elder .

Colfenor, the Last Yew could also be an good extension, but is a little bit high CMC. But this should be no Problem in a Treefolk-Tirbal. Im not quite sure if he is modern Legal.

And Battlewand Oak could smash your opponents together with Everbark Shaman .

What are thoughts about them?

Colfenor, the Last Yew would be a good fit here.
