Quantity of mana rocks

Commander Deck Help forum

Hello all! I'm building a Nekusar mill + wheel + discard deck and I've been wondering how many mana rocks (average quantity) should I put into my deck. Thanks in advance.

I would say for a Grixis deck, somewhere around 6-10 would be appropriate.

I would say since you are dealing with Grixis colors around 5-8. Those being something to the effect of the following: Sol Ring, Darksteel Ingot, Chromatic Lantern, Coalition Relic, and a couple signets and if you aren't too worried about color fixing you could switch it up with like a Mana Vault or what have you.

3-8 would be a good number based on the lists Ive seen, but it largely depends on your meta's speed/power, and how many slots you can spare.

Sol Ring, URB signet trio, Chromatic Lantern +1 other seems to be the most common for Nekusar.

Your decent to high level Nekusar build should run 15 sources of acceleration once you factor in rituals and the like. The idea is that with wheels, it's possible to "storm" off by refueling your hand. No rocks over 3 mana. At all. I'll hurt you if I see one.

Pieguy396 KingMathoro Izu_Korasu TheDevicer thanks for the responses guys. TheDevicer aren't those mana acceleration cards creatures, generally? Signets + mana vault seems fine to me but I don't have an experience with mana acceleration cards besides artifacts.

Hey, Nekusar is strong with wheel effects therefore I would play 8-10 mana rocks depending on budget with 36-38x lands to take advantage of wheels.

For budget Grixis: the three on color Signets, two Talismans, Sol Ring, Fellwar Stone, Thought Vessel and/or Mind Stone and/or Coldsteel Heart.

No budget: the three on color Signets, Ring, Mana Vault, Mana Crypt, Grim Monolith, Mox Diamond, Chrome Mox and Fellwar.

Medallions are also nice they're like pseudo mana rocks: Sapphire Medallion and Ruby Medallion.

Using more rocks is good with control because then you can play more than one control spell per turn. This is especially important when playing wheels because then you can use mana from these rocks to play more cards per turn that you just drew from the wheel. A wheel also let you discard your hand if you draw too many rocks.

Don't forget you also have access to Talisman of Dominance and Talisman of Indulgence for Nekusar. Both are amazing.

@Guizee

Rituals + rocks are fairly standard in Nekusar. Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, etc.
