Commander Deck Help forum

How is the deck straight out of the box. I got someone who wants to play EDH and he seems like a commander that he would enjoy.

Also what are some key budgets cards to add right away along with what cards are complete ass?

All of the preconstructed commander decks are very good. Having played with it, I can say it feels slightly underpowered but can definitely hold it's own against most commander decks.

In terms of cuts, the best way to determine that is to just play it and make cuts accordingly. In theory, looking over the decklist; Korozda Guildmage, Stonehoof Chieftain, Evolutionary Escalation, Necrogenesis, Frenzied Fugue, Grave Upheaval, Order//Chaos (I don't know how you link split cards) and Zhur-Taa Druid are cards that don't look like they mesh as well or are not as powerful as other option.

I would look to add more mass pump: IE Cathars' Crusade and Overwhelming Stampede. More card draw: IE Read the Bones and Harmonize. And more good creatures: IE, Gisela, Blade of Goldnight.

The Mana source did a great video on this. Covers strategy and whatever else you'd like to know

Honestly it depends a little on your playgroup. It's not too serious, the deck will be pretty good as is. The upgrades really depend on your friend, which way do you think he would sway the deck most. If he wants to have more numbers; things like Assemble the Legion, Frontline Medic Legion Loyalist will give him a little help that way. If he wants to be big and swing with bigger stuff Decimator of the Provinces (it's a more budget Craterhoof Behemoth) and it's kin will be his friends. One place I think the deck is a little weak on is recursion, as it stands the only things it has in this category is Ravos, Soultender, Alesha, Who Smiles at Death and Grave Upheaval. So if a boardwipe happens, your not as much of a spectator the rest of the time.

I hope at the very least, this gave you a little insight

Mtggoldfish.com has a series on upgrading each of the new commanders, and this is the only one not done yet....but I did find a deck on here that shows some upgrade possibilities with two videos from where he got the info from : open hostility upgrades list(budget/non-budget)

I played a pretty good Saskia the Unyielding deck yesterday, effects like Dictate of the Twin Gods that double damage are extremely brutal. Just having that out swinging and connecting on anyone with a unbuffered Saskia deals 6 combat damage plus 12 to the chosen player. He also used Fires of Yavimaya to do 10 and 20 the turn Saskia came out. It's pretty brutal.
