since you are splashing black,
what do you think of Ankle Shanker against other creature-based decks

-2x Returned Phalanx

+2x Butcher of the Horde

With all the different tokens can easily swing turn 4 Butcher with lifelink.

@ Blisterdark I considered Ankle Shanker originally was why I splashed black but his overall cost was the reason I weeded him out... then again he gets out and everything on the other side is dead. I am keeping in maybe for now, but strongly thinking of putting him back in.

@ MightyMM1 I considered that too. I went with Returned Phalanx due to the low cast and control in case I am having issues with larger creatures. That being said I want the Butcher of the Horde s flying and sac for when i need some life back.

I am considering what to drop out though with the number of multi-color cards Soldier of the Pantheon is almost a must, and the generators are needed. So it is a question to lose direct damage or not... I have to play test to see. I will not dismiss either option though. Thank you both.

Needs Bloodsoaked Champion and Return to the Ranks and Returned Phalanx is really bad why are you playing him?

@ Kiora_Fan-01 Bloodsoaked Champion is useless in this deck, takes up space to be used somewhere else, and 2 mana for a 3/3 wall is why Returned Phalanx is in there. Return to the Ranks is worth considering, but has been useless in previous incarnations of this deck unless it went long. By adding in other cards I can overcome the advantage of returned to ranks without having 4-5 creature cards in the grave yard. Tokens are just gone, and since this is a token generating deck it is not very useful.

So I would drop Butcher of the Horde and Herald of Anafenza completely. Add in a Spear of Heliod and run Elspeth, Sun's Champion mainboard. I would also drop the Mardu Banner for Raiders' Spoils . Its a standard Orcish Oriflamme with the ability for card draw. I would also drop the Deflecting Palm to the sideboard, removing Returned Phalanx , and add a couple more Mardu Charm main. Also, remove Bolt of Keranos from the sideboard, add in Hero's Downfall . Lastly I would remove Howl of the Horde for Whip of Erebos for lifegain.

Lastly, try to find someplace either sideboard or mainboard for Thoughtseize and Despise .

Oh and just thought of this, as an alternate win condition, think possibly about Altar of the Brood

@ Tingettley Butcher of the Horde I want to test in before getting rid of, vigilance and lifelink at the cost of a few tokens is nothing. Herald of Anafenza is in because of a quick drop that can create more tokens if i have nothing else going on could easily remove though. Spear of Heliod I will consider more, but really other then the +1/+1 it is whatever. Elspeth, Sun's Champion Was in, and might go back in, but dropped her due to mana cost, but she is perfect for controlling other decks, so at the least will go with her as a defensive. Returned Phalanx is one that confuses me as to why everyone is so against it. it is a cheap defender that it is possible to make attack, but the best part is it deal damage so it can take out all the annoying little things people toss out and only costs 2 mana. Has saved me a couple times from early loss by hitting a mana pocket. I can see Deflecting Palm moved to the side board, and it probably will be moved here soon. Adding in the extra Mardu Charm s is a good idea.Same for the swap of Bolt of Keranos traded for Hero's Downfall In this deck Thoughtseize and Despise would only be good in the sideboard if needed. The tokens and few bigger guys can handle most of what is put on the board. Altar of the Brood I have considered a few times simply because the mass of tokens entering will make them cycle through their deck quickly. It would be a good extra effect for sure.

ok, made some changes. The Whip of Erebos makes sense to me more then the Spear of Heliod Still debating on Plainswalkers.

90% of your lands are CIPT. In my opinion that is complete shite. +1 life for a mediocre "dual land" while your opponent ramps into turn 2 Savage Knuckleblade or some other beefy guy? No. Fetchlands, basic lands, and Apocalypse pain lands. You cannot be waiting to play while your opponent is beating your face in.

definetly needs Sorin, Solemn Visitor !

Mcleetsauce I will consider replacing some of the dual lands for fetch and basics. They are useful for the start, but they become useless later in the game. I enjoy the versatility of multi lands over shuffling through my deck to put one color out at a time.

Kiora_Fan-01 Need is not the right word here. This is a mass army deck, it is a nice card and if I add any plainswalkers I will be adding him and Elspeth, Sun's Champion . But I can find 2-3 more cards to put out before him. Great for a longer game, and I love this plainswalker. I plan on building a deck around him later.

You realize it says all creatures right? and it makes tokens! It's ultimate isn't too relevant...but it's pretty sick! :D

Traston says... #19

Oh I agree. It is a sweet planeswalker, and you mix it with Elspehth and m15 Ajani and you have a bunch of creatures every turn with 4/3 and life link... those three make a factory all their own. Plus the flying vampires to take out of air... if you can get them out early no stopping them, but the mana is the slow down.

I would actually run Sorin, Solemn Visitor over the whip.

Traston says... #21

I may have to test it both ways... either one will be a late game add.

I proxied something similar to this and sleeved up the deck and did some testing. Heres the advice I have for you... drop the Goblinslide , theyre good, no doubt, but finding a free turn to play them on is too difficult. Drop the Mardu Banner for more basics... someone above me said something about all your tapped lands and theyre right, it slows the deck down way too much... Drop the Whip of Erebos for Sorin, Solemn Visitor , his +1 is better than the whip. If you hit all your tokens with +1/0 its almost like doubling the dmg you would do that turn. Drop Howl of the Horde for more Launch the Fleet . Howl of the Horde are also good, but theyre too slow for this deck and Launch the Fleet can literally double the amount of tokens you have in a single turn. Lastly, I would drop Akroan Hoplite for Eidolon of Countless Battles . His bestow is really good and he doesnt only get bonuses when he attacks.

Also, maybe take another look at your creature base to try to make it more consistent, ie more 4 ofs and less 2 ofs...

zergling2525 Took your suggestions and revamped a little. I understand the need for speed and not using tapped lands, but I am not convinced on the fetch lands... I guess I need to look at the rulings before I am convinced.

Have you considered Purphoros, God of the Forge ? With you putting out so many tokens, it'd be an additional angle for dealing damage even if you were stuck not being able to swing with your 1/1s.
