Spells and Wizards and Fun!
Basically, the idea here is to get some combination of
Harness the Storm
, Curious Homunculus
, and Docent of Perfection
out and and then cast a bunch of spells!
I'm not sure what the best way to explain this deck is, so I'll just go through card by card and give a little explaination that might get carried away! Here goes:
Curious Homunculus
let's you cast a bunch of spells for much cheaper. Ideally, you can get him online turn 4/5. If you can't, then something has gone
Horribly Awry
.
Harness the Storm
lets you keep casting spells. It's pretty self explanatory and the reason this deck can feel like a Storm.Docent of Perfection
is the finisher. Since there's a Wizard Tribal theme in this deck, it should be pretty easy to get it going and flipped the turn after you play it. Final Iteration
basically can close out a game if given the chance as it's a beastly beater and just keeps spawning more flying wizards!
Anticipate is just all around solid draw/card selection. If you can get 2 or 3 of these off
Harness the Storm
and Voracious Reader
, you can easily pull up all the tools you need.Take Inventory is great because it progressively draws you more cards, and playing more of them again draws you tons of cards. It can be very easy to completely refill your hand.Tormenting Voice is also great because it both draws cards, and adds fuel for
Harness the Storm
. Under certain circumstances, it can be very beneficial to dump a different spell because you can capitalize off of it later.
Incendiary Flow
is about as good as burn is going to get, for now (looks at Kaladesh). It's also a beast when it comes down multiple times. It's not Lightning Bolt, but again, as good as we're going to get.
Galvanic Bombardment
has the same benefit as Take Inventory. It just keeps getting better the more you play, and the more you replay.
Fiery Impulse
is pretty standard. It's very easy to get Spell Mastery, so it'll be hitting a creature for 3 more often than not.
Stormchaser Mage is this decks early attack/defense as well as mid game blocker/powerhouse. His fat butt is why he's so good imo. Very easily delays some early aggression from certain decks, and then becomes hard to kill later when you're going off.Jori En, Ruin Diver is a nice little addition because not only is he a Wizard, he also keeps the hand refreshed when we have short bursts of spell slinging, or even just when we start building the board.Unsubstantiate just kind of works. Sure, it's not going to perfectly counter a spell, but it creates a tempo change. Several cast off
Harness the Storm
can very easily clear a board of creatures for a turn, while a well timed one can keep away the inevitable Collected Company for one turn longer.
The Sideboard is basically just conditional burn and counter spells that are nice to have in any UR deck. The one ofs are also there because it gives the deck a little more flexibility in terms of strategy.
So yeah, that's U/R Spell Slinging Wizards! I hope you try it out. Feel free to leave any comments on how I can improve it!
