Basically just for a bit of fun in Casual.
The deck might actually be legal for one of the other formats but unfortunately I'm not that knowledgeable about what's banned and what isn't.
I'm quite new to deck creation and I know this is far from perfect.. Or even good for that matter so any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated.
Some major reworking has been made, primarily including the addition of Artifact Lands now. I'm aware that the mana curve is incredibly out of whack but it's surprising just how much this deck can mana ramp with artifact land.
The deck is actually working extremely well within my playgroup.
If you're on a budget, Trickbind can be used in addition to Torpor Orb as the enters the battlefield abilities of your creatures are triggered abilities. Some quick mana acceleration artifacts couldn't hurt either. Also if you run 4 tutors or early card draw you can probably take the Tezzerets out entirely.
Yeah, the other one that works wonders is Stifle though that one is ridiculously expensive. As of yet, I've been able to get Torpor Orb out consistently turn 2 or 3 so I don't think I need it at the moment though that may change later.
As for the Tezzerets, I'm considering taking two of them out to put in a couple more tutors but I've always been a sucker for planeswalkers haha. The more card search the better though, as getting a Prototype Portal imprinted with Phyrexian Dreadnought is just hilarious.
Either way, I'll mix the deck around a bit and play test your suggestions. Hopefully we see some good results :D
I built a standard version, deck:i-hope-they-serve-torpor-in-hell. Always wanted to try the dreadnought version but I told my friend about it and he built one first. He uses Dark Ritual and hopes for the turn 1 dreadnought.
Yeah, Dark Ritual would be great fun but it focuses the play only on that mechanic. I'm trying to go slightly hybrid here with destruction control. Still, it would allow me to get Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker out two turns earlier (or even less if you have multiple Dark Ritual s so I'm definitely going to have to play test that one too!
Almost forgot since you run blue, Academy Ruins can be your best friend.
Oh true! Thanks for that, I'll take out a Crumbling Necropolis for it. Hopefully it won't effect the mana too much.

Yeah, I've had a think about Leveler . The main thing that keeps putting me off him though is the fact that it's lacking as a 5 drop for a 10/10 with no other effects when compared to Phyrexian Dreadnought is a 1 drop for a 12/12 with trample.
I'm not sure about how you think to control the game with this decklist. It'd sure be nice to drop a nicol bolas, but with the lack of early-game control cards, you just won't get to play it. At that point, I would consider removing creatures that don't interact with torpor orb and the unplayable stuff (Prototype Portal , Cruel Ultimatum ).You might want to drop in some removal cards (like Damnation or card:Black Sun's Zenith) and maybe some cool chump-blockers (Augury Owl , Augur of Bolas ).You might also want to play Tinker , which can help you find your orb or put a dreadnought in play if your orb is in place already.
Most of the cards you're referring to merely just come down to personal preference.
Cruel Ultimatum has been amazing on several occasions and it's just such a fun card.
The chump blockers aren't that necessary, I haven't had to worry about being swung when I have a 12/12 trample on the field.

Also, I should add that I've played over 50 games with this deck and easily 3/4's of them I've got out the big 8 drops like Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker .
Fabricate was in to begin with but the other tutors allow me to skip it. Thanks for the suggestions but as far as actually getting a torpor orb into my hand, it's fine as it is.
