Seems like a good testing move. I wonder if there is a 1-drop that could potentially replace the Amulet of Vigor.

What about AEther Vial to power creatures into play quicker?

Also, have you tried Path to Exile in the deck? What about a split between that and Abzan Charm? Charm is obviously the more versatile card, but the cost of Path is just great. The Charm also misses things like Dark Confidant and Eidolon of the Great Revel that could be problematic for you.

Or you could remove the Amulet and try Path in its slot instead.

I don't use AEther Vial as I can't accept spending that kind of money on a deck already this expensive however I do believe it would aid my aggression, however I find that, assuming I go for my turn 3 20, it gets in the way as I have a tight mana usage early. As for Path to Exile I did play test it but found it to be lacking as in few situations that I needed spot removal that I did not have the extras mana to use higher costing removal.

Wall of Frost would be great if you splashed blue, Instead, maybe Guardians of Meletis?

Running all 5 colors would be far to damaging to my mana supply given the reward. As for Guardians of Meletis I would run Wall of Tanglecord over it, however I choose to deliberatly run creatures that don't have "defender" as it prevents me from freely attacking.

I would consider swapping an Abzan Charm or two for Faith's Shield. It is so critical that you have Doran or Assault Formation on board. Faith's Shield is a ridiculously handy and versatile little card.

Nice deck, either way. +1

Oh-- and for sideboard, Batwing Brume against Kiki/Twin. Any B/W deck should have that in sideboard.

I still think you can do better than Abzan Charm, I just don't know what you are trying to accomplish with it. There is cheaper removal out there, as well as other cards that you could subsitute for it.

Great deck, though :)

Too bad you can't use Wall of Blossoms. That would have insane value.

You can use Wall of Omens...

I choose not to use creatures with defender as they can not freely attack with out me first having Assault Formation out and paying to get them to attack. The inefficiency is to great give that there are many other cards that I can run in place. As for my reasoning to keep Abzan Charm mainboard over other forms of removal I direct you to my archived comments in the "update" tab.

Have you tried Collected Company? Maybe cutting the Silklash Spiders? You can do better than a 5 mana 7/7. CoCo is a 4 mana instant speed 5/5 and/or 3/3. Also Nylea is expensive at 4.

ArchFline says... #14

That is a hard card to justify adding as if I removed my silklash spiders for them I would effectively have only 15 creatures that I could grab from in the deck which is less than ideal to such a point that I find it a bit pointless.

That being said thank you for the suggestion. I had once toyed with a more aggressive build but found that outside of the turn 3 combo I can often entrench a fight to win in the long term via finishers built into the deck.

Yeah I dont know about silklash spider. You shouldnt have any issues with flying as it is as your running tower defence already, and 5 mana is pretty far off of your curve.

Fair enough, I replaced Silklash Spider with Spellskite although I do detest the price of that card as it is hilariously expensive, but such is magic :P

Why no fetches. I know you have the mana base but sometimes a timely fetch will help you. Yes i know its a lighting bolt to the face if you don't have vigor out. By the way why not three vigor?

Why no fetchlands ArchFline

January 14, 2016 12:28 a.m.

ArchFline says... #21

@deghlanj I have found that they inhibit some of my play as they I trend toward winning either very early or very late in a game. The deck thinning that fetchlands do is not helpful to me as my late game finishers are mana sinks. That and fetch lands are pretty expensive so for a no competitive deck I could not warrant spending upwards of $100 getting adding a playset to the deck.

deghlanj says... #22

ArchFline that makes sense. Because you don't want to risk losing a lot of life for mono red. 18 is much better than 17 in that match up. On another note do you have any tournament results. This deck looks fun in modern and I want to know how it's doing

I went 8-1 at a local modern FNM with the current iteration of this deck, losing a game to a heavy control/pillow fort deck, which was to be expected.

Definitely a +1 from me, I've been playing Assault Formation in Standard and currently have Doran as my tiny leaders deck. So a very biased +1 at that :p

How is Hunting Wilds working out for you? I can't imagine it being that good. I'd rather just throw in 3 Noble Hierarchs or 3 Paths.
