Ethereal armor probably of less use since fencing ace already double strike, would drop them for [faith's shield]. also would sideboard Rootborn Defenses for defense against Supreme Verdict and other board wipes

Thanks for the suggestion! I think I might just do that, as it would provide with much needed protection for Wild Defiance :-) I was originally using the ethereal armour because it gives a boost to toughness making it harder to kill fencing ace, but I guess some extra protection would work just as well, not to mention its an instant so can buff him up as well!

If you can, I'd use Silverblade Paladin over Swift Justice . And then try and get a fourth one also. Probably by cutting a Wild Defiance . Being so short on creatures makes Wild Beastmaster less effective and also makes it harder for you to have something worth buffing. You won't get a Fencing Ace every game, so it doubles the probability of getting double strikers out. And bonded to a Wild Beastmaster could get ugly pretty quickly for your opponent. But if they are too expensive I'd still replace the Swift Justice for something like Titanic Growth at least. But still try for a few more creatures I think. Champion of the Parish , Mayor of Avabruck  Flip , Precinct Captain , Elite Inquisitor , among others, could all be an improvement I think

Swift Justice is in there for the life-link, quite often find myself gaining 18+ life on turn 4 from it, so I think it's worth keeping.Though perhaps I could just sideboard it, and then mainboard it when needed. I do like the idea of Silverblade Paladin & Wild Beastmaster , but unfortunately all my Paladins are tied up in my Exalted deck. There's just too many options, I'm going to have to playtest a whole bunch of builds before I settle on one :P

For the time being I've gone with Mayor of Avabruck  Flip , it's less mana intensive than the other options, and has the potential to increase my creature base for more synergy with Wild Beastmaster .

Oh I didn't even realize that Swift Justice gave lifelink. Definitely makes it better than I earlier thought. Probably should make sure I read things right. I still think the deck looks a lot better with 16 creatures though. But if you think the life helps you a lot, maybe you could still fit some in? Good luck.

ok so for Gatecrash I'm going to add red into the deck, I've found from playing this deck that I always run out of creatures/steam if I don't win within 4 or 5 turns so I need some bigger threats as well. The main reason is I want to run Ghor-Clan Rampager and some other Bloodrush creatures. I think I'm going to take out the Mayor of Avabruck  Flip to do this at the moment. What do you guys think?

Really like the way this deck works. +1 from me.

Dude Madcap Skills . It works.

Yeah I've been looking at using Madcap Skills with Alpha Authority to make it completely unblockable and hexproof, but it just doesn't really fit in this deck, would be better suited to a pure Gruul deck. For less mana I can use card:Faith's Shield to make something unblockable which would buff it +3/3 if I had Wild Defiance out as well. Plus, Rancor is just better, I'd rather take trample any day.

2x Avacyn's Pilgrim? Otherwise I honestly can't think of much, your deck is awesome and definitely not the usual Naya deck (I would know, haha). It works well and is centered around a nice idea, I was considering using Wild Defiance at one point but alas I decided not to; however, you did exactly what I would've done.

+1!

Thanks! I did originally have them in there, but there were a few situations where I didn't need the white, I needed green or red, and being able to untap the shock lands with Arbor Elf works a bit better I think. Running both could just amount to excess mana as well. I'm currently thinking of finding room for Garruk, Primal Hunter for the card draw, will possibly swap out Revenge of the Hunted for him, will playtest to find out as I'm dubious about the mana cost.

Love this, most people dismiss Wild Defiance claiming it's too fiddly to use, to me it reads 'Your creatures are immune to most burn spells in the format', whats not to love?

Have you considered running Burst of Strength over Savage Surge perhaps? the boost isn't as large, but it is permanent, plus it is cheaper to cast.

I did for a fleeting moment, but didn't consider it being a permanent +1/+1 counter, shall make the change now! Thanks :-)

How about adding Martial Glory? If I understand the cards correct, it should give one of your creatures +9/+9.

March 26, 2013 7:55 a.m.

wreckedd says... #16

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that, even if the same card targets the same creature multiple times it will only get +3/3 from Wild Defiance . It does still provide +9/+9 if spread across two creatures though (well, +3/+6 & +6/+3), but I rarely have the need for buffing more than one target. Thanks though!

I did actually have her in here at one point :-) She is a complete beast, and I have actually been having troubles getting the right mana to cast Markov Blademaster early on, so yeah I may just go back. Thanks guys!

Jesus christ, I love this deck. If it weren't for the number of dual/shock lands required to make it, I'd totally be on that to try it out at my next FNM. Looks awesome man, good luck with it.

On another note, this kind of reminds me, slightly, of my Gruul deck where the basis is essentially to get low cost, evasive creatures out and then just buff 'em to hell. Yours is definitely better built though, lol.

Thanks for the comment dude! I'm working on a budget version that will just be Selesnya colours at the moment, that way the shock lands won't be needed as much. It revolves more around humans though, using Wild Beastmaster / Hamlet Captain to boost Fencing Ace , it's just as powerful but a little slower. I'll link you when I've finished it if you like :-)

Savegeborn Hydra is very good as a late game bomb, but if you are going for the early kill he is kind of a dead card. I'm not saying he is bad, but with only 4 arbor elfs he will usually come in rather small. If that is your plan, you can then slowly make him bigger, but I feel like kessig wolfrun is a better mana sink. Maybe look into a large bloodrusher, ghor clan is the best one out there but there are some others that can be used to pump for a lot, and still be a good card. Your best bet is probably zhur-taa swine.

Also, how's your Jund midrange matchup. It seems like their removal could be very problematic.
