I think 4 Runaway Steam-Kin is where you want to be. Lets you cheat out a lot of spells in one turn with all your cantrips.

LonelyDonkeyKong, Yeah. I was thinking with my wallet, mostly. They are ordered and on the way.

Was also thinking about replacing Lava Spike with Browbeat, as I know hitting a dead-end in my draw chain is probable. Thoughts?

I think Lava Spike is fine in the deck. If you wanted to upgrade I would think about swapping some creatures out for upgrades instead. Since the biggest anti-synergy I see here is your creatures that ping opponents for spells cant attack. So having the haste cards doesn't help. So I would either add in Pyromancer Ascension, Grapeshot over some of the 1 mana haste draw cards.

I wouldn't add in Browbeat since Risk Factor is almost strictly better. But I don't think you need that card. You will be hitting hard and hopefully be killing your opponent before that really matters.

Other cards that are not too expensive to consider would be Guttersnipe for more damage, Young Pyromancer for the ability to block and attack wide and Bedlam Reveler to refuel.

LonelyDonkeyKong- your suggestions are good and well intended, but I have a few issues with some of the choices for the MB:
Pyromancer Ascension- while this would offer resources, it only copies the spells that are cast, and do little for the archetype of the deck as the copies don't trigger the Pingers.

Guttersnipe and Bedlam Reveler are simply too much for their effects.

Grapeshot is absolutely viable, but I have not committed to it yet, as I would like to test how long and consistent the storm chains play.

With that being said: no, the haste cards are not doing much for the deck itself, but do proc the Pingers, and offer the cantrip, which is the sole purpose of this deck, and also allow Grim Lavamancer to do his job late-game immediately for the kill. Believe me, they belong in here for one reason or another.

Young Pyromancer feels like a sideboard card as the first game should be a full-throttle speed kill, while noting weaknesses against the opposing deck.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll consider them further as the deck gets tested. I'm still waiting for cards to assemble the deck, after that, you bet I'll be tuning the numbers.

Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh  Flip could be fun and easily flipped here

ZorrosRage- thanks for the suggestion, but I believe she's too slow and does too little. Her first ability as a walker only does 2 damage per turn and doesn't trigger my pingers or my steam-kins. While her creature ability mimics Thermo-Alchemist, that or Guttersnipe would be more cost effective. Red planeswalkers don't actually belong in burn decks, they are simply not cost effective. I appreciate the time to comment!

Could also play some Flamekin Harbinger in somewhere in the 75 if you like leaning on steam kin. Could just be too slow, but might be nice in the sideboard for removal heavy match-ups.

LonelyDonkeyKong- thanks for that suggestion, I see and like what you're going for, but as much as I want it to work in here, I simply can't justify another potential late-game dead draw.

I am, however, thinking about MB 2x Guttersnipe for 2x Firebrand Archer. The 'Kins really make these viable all of a sudden; but I haven't really stretched the legs on this build yet. Thoughts?

Have you consideredLightning Bolt, i would get rid of the warlords for them.

DINOSAURS65556- Lightning Bolt was originally in here, but the deck needed more draw power to storm. And bolt wasnt doing enough for my archetype. so, out came the lightning bolts and now I have a nice consistent draw mechanic.

Thanks for the comment!

This deck is super cool. Have you played against any tier decks with it?

December 6, 2018 4:26 p.m.

TheSurgeon says... #13

PoopedHard- Unfortunately, no. I live in a small town in Northwest Pennsylvania called Franklin. There aren't a lot of tiered decks in my little town of 10,000.

There are some home-brews that are pretty nasty here: some Merfolk decks, one or two could be considered tier 1-2. There's a couple combo decks and stompy decks running around as well, But, this deck seems to hold its own, as long as you don't mind taking some damage.

It seems Burning Prophet is not modern legal. I'm surprised not to see any Lightning Bolt but your deck looks solid anyways. I play a similar one, but filled with bolts.

Zarathoustra- the card will be legal. It has not been officially released yet. Bolts also work, but the cantrips are a huge factor in this deck.

Firebrand Archer might work as extra copies of pingers (if you need more than 8 that is)

TheSurgeon says... #17

Kutsu- Thanks! Unfortunately, Firebrand Archer was in here in a previous build, but simply isn't as tough as either Thermo-Alchemist or Electrostatic Field . A x/3 offers some cushion on the field T2, and isn't enough of a threat to waste a bolt on, but won't die to Shock or Searing Blood . Furthermore, Alchemist offers an additional damage per turn, and allows Needle Drop to be first spell of the turn, if necessary.

As far as simply more pingers, this is a good option for budget casual play if you take out the Runaway Steam-Kin . There simply isn't room, otherwise.

Thanks again!

I did not realize the synergy between Needle Drop and Thermo-Alchemist at all! That is pretty neat. Also thank you for the explanation. I understand your reasons now.
