I want a playable combo deck in modern that's not splinter twin!
Ok, I know there's a lot of other viable combo decks in modern as well, but still I wanted to try and make a combo deck that's consistent and different than the typical combos floating around.
Here's what we have: Mindcrank and Duskmantle Guildmage first ability is an instant win as long as a card goes into the graveyard or damage is dealt. This is the deck's combo and win condition. I know its fragile, but both cards have a cmc of 2 meaning we can get it off on turn four if we're lucky, observe:
turn 1) land, springleaf drum
turn 2) land, guildmage
turn 3) land, mindcrank, tap guildmage with springleaf, another guildmage
turn 4) activate guildmage ability, tap guildmage with springleaf, thoughtseize.
The rest of the deck is built around tutoring out the combo and protecting yourself through the early game. Thoughtseize and inquisition give me 8 discard spells to activate the combo and to ruin my opponents early game plans.
Muddle the Mixture
,
Dimir Infiltrator
, and Disciple of Deceit (along with all the 2 cmc cards in the deck) allow me to tutor for anything with a cmc of 2. (and
Springleaf Drum
ensures that I have a way of tapping Disciple of Deceit).
Night whisper's lets me draw into my combo, and
Halimar Depths
along with
Temple of Deceit
can setup my draw steps so I get the pieces I need.
Let me know what you think and what can be improved. It's admittedly a bit gimmicky, but I think it could still be somewhat competitive.
