I would personally sideboard the Soul Snuffers as their utility is limited to token/weenie decks. Ball Lightning isn't too terribly expensive, and can be hit with tainted strike to land a healthy infect blow on the cheap. Phyresis is a more permanent option for giving infect. Also, the new Titan's Strength is a pretty solid boost, though I'm unsure how expensive it is at this time. (It's common, so it shouldn't be too bad.)

Thanks for your input! I agree with you that Soul Snuffers loses it's value when not fighting token/weenie decks, and that the side board may be a good call.

As for your replacement suggestions, here are my thoughts:

  • Ball Lightning : In competitive modern, if you don't win by turn 5-6, you've already lost. As this deck is based around one hitting your opponent, and nothing in my deck is natural infect/wither, hitting for 6 damage/poison seems negligible.

  • Phyresis : My issue with a more permanent infect is that in my experience Nova Chaser gets summoned then either dies, or you hit that turn and win. Nova Chaser very rarely stays on the battlefield longer than 1-2 turns. If I were to go this route, I believe Glistening Oil may synergize better with how this deck works.

  • Titan's Strength : This may be a good call, although it would be nice to replace Soul Snuffers with another creature. Also, I have yet to have a game where Nova Chaser has failed to deliver a killing blow (knock on wood), so I don't know how much value +3/+1 would be. I will continue testing and keep this card in mind if Nova Chaser begins to fall short.

I would love to hear your thoughts, thanks again for your insight!

The only problem I have with Generator Servant is that it dies when you use the ability, so it makes Championing much harder.

it's awesome seeing Nova Chaser get some love! I agree with qrt saying you should at least drop one land for a Nova Chaser . You also may want to add Night's Whisper in here for some decent card draw.

Was brewing about, and Hellspark Elemental being returned to the battlefield and championing it with Nova Chaser seems good; basically a recurring bolt from the graveyard. Might not fit in this version but thought id throw it out there

Also Grinning Ignus seems like it would go in to the sideboard super well; makes a lot of decks pay really bad, against scapeshift it will probably kill them to go off, and bloom titan means each Summer Bloom into a Primeval Titan will straight up deal them 15 damage so it shuts that down as well! Pretty solid against any deck running tenuous mana bases so control as well if you can make one stick

Fling would be better than Soul's Fire if you are trying to one turn kill. The one mana can make a lot of difference...

Have you thought of Searing Blood for removal and burning them also like Searing Blaze because Landfall is fundamentally broken? Also Twinflame to copy the nova?

What about Assault Strobe or Temur Battle Rage as a backup win con? If Nova Chaser can get the swing in, twenty unblocked is just as good as ten poison!

May I ask why you are running primal beyond as unless soul snuffer is in your sideboard it is litterally just a strictly worse mountain?

want to hear a sweet addition that speeds up the combo? Try Obsidian Battle-Axe. It auto equips to your Nova so it buffs and gives it haste. If your nova dies it stays behind to equip to the next one! :D
