Dubious Raider or How I Charmed the Monster
The point of this deck is to give your opponent bad choices like: Give you
Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider
or take
Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider
and lose the game for doing it.
What Sort of Deck is This?
This is a twist on the Devoted Druid + Vizier of Remedies
combo deck. We want to go infinite and kill the opponent by not placing -1/-1 counters on cards.
Why Dubious Challenge?
To better guarantee finding combo pieces. This deck includes
Dubious Challenge
as a knockoff
Collected Company
. There should be many times where the cards offered by the challenge are both poor choices for your opponent. I'll cover how below.
Why Vorinclex? Why not Just Emrakul and Iona?
If the opponent takes
Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider
, this allows
Devoted Druid
to go infinite just as
Vizier of Remedies
would. Relying on a big finisher card you don't ever hope to play naturally means they are dead in your hand. Both
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
and
Iona, Shield of Emeria
can't be hit by
Collected Company
. That means you have eight dead cards to your four combo enablers instead of four dead cards to your eight combo enablers.
Combos:
That's a lot of different combos, do they all work?
The point of this build is to allow for multiple win conditions with cards that support and reinforce the others. Can't get
Vizier of Remedies
for mana? Try and toss your opponent a
Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider
. Can't find the
Devoted Druid
? Use the
Kitchen Finks
for sacrifice and ETB.
The engines all have a redundancy. You have both
Collected Company
and
Dubious Challenge
with a worse backup of
Duskwatch Recruiter
to dig for the creatures you need to combo with. This helps against hand attack and mill strategies.
The Turn 3 Win:
T1:
Helix Pinnacle
T2:
Devoted Druid
T3:
Collected Company
finding
Vizier of Remedies
-or-
Dubious Challenge
finding
Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider
or
Vizier of Remedies
and
Charming Prince
What do you mean, "Poor Choices?"
This deck also runs some insurance. To make sure you can hit your combo pieces more often
Charming Prince
makes
Dubious Challenge
a non-choice. You either get what you want, or the
Charming Prince
blinks the card the opponent chose and you get what you want at the end of your turn. That way if you have a remaining half of an infinite combo and the
Charming Prince
with your
Dubious Challenge
, you are still set.
When All Else Fails?
Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider
is a solid beater that really messes with planeswalkers and counter based strategies, like infect. Don't underestimate stalling with
Kitchen Finks
and
Charming Prince
just to slam a
Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider
.
So, You Win Any Small Japanese Tournaments With This Yet?
Currently this deck is in the early testing stages and needs tweaking to be truly competitive. Any suggestions are welcome. I feel like I'm lacking interaction currently and my sideboard is just a sort of "greatest hits" or green and white cards.
Specific Help needed:
Any other creatures that slot well with the
Kitchen Finks
that could substitute for the
Altar of Dementia
would be greatly appreciated. Especially when hit by
Collected Company
