Gentlemen, the day is ours. —April 8, 2014

That's right, we're #1 on the site! Thanks so much for everybody making this possible. I will be writing thank-you's to all who helped the Brigade achieve this great honour. This is a wonderful community, and I'm very pleased that we can all share in something fun like this. This victory belongs to all. I cannot praise you enough.

Keep the votes and comments coming; I always love to hear your opinions and thoughts. Honour has no end, and neither should our fellowship.

Forward the Budget Brigade!

I would drop a Celestial Flare for another Magma Jet in the main. Also, do you feel you get your four drops out consistently on turn 4? This is a pretty aggressive deck and I find four drops to be dead cards unless I can get them out really fast. Have you considered running an extra land or two (if you find you can't get them out on turn 4)? +1 from me

This is a really good point. These 4-drops are strategically irrelevant in the context of this deck, especially when it is working properly. Ideally, the game should go like this:

T1: Plains , Boros Elite

T2: Mountain , Wojek Halberdiers

T3: Mountain or Plains , Skyknight Legionnaire , swing 8

T4: play land if possible, play creature if possible, swing 8, Boros Charm for 4 damage to opponent, win

I feel that more than 21 lands is excessive. Though I believe you on the Magma Jet call, I'll make the change. Perhaps I should consider replacing some or all of the 4-drops with something faster, like Soldier of the Pantheon , Ash Zealot , or Legion Loyalist .

What do you think about this?

If you want to keep the land count low, which makes sense in an aggro deck, you may want to cut some of the higher drops to be more focused. Could be wrong but ti makes sense to me. Especially Legion Loyalist

Hmm...you make a great point. I'm a huge fan of Tajic, Blade of the Legion and Firemane Avenger , but they're just not on-curve for this deck. I'll run 4 Legion Loyalist , since he's a Boros guy. I'm sure this will make the deck more consistent.

Have you played this deck competitevely?

I have used it with solid success at FNM. I have not extensively tested it against the top archetypes in the meta. I have played blue devo ("MUD"), mono-black devo, Esper Control, and a Gruul Monsters. My opponent's strategy rarely effects my own, since usually I'm racing at top speed for lethal damage. Removal-heavy opponents do slow me down, though, and I try to use Boros Charm whenever possible to preserve my troops.

The highest FNM I placed at was tied for 2nd with this deck. I believe it's even better now, though. I do have 4x Temple of Triumph and 4x Sacred Foundry , but I don't list them due to budget reasons. Turn 4 wins are pretty regular when the deck is on a hot streak.

Do you play a similar deck competitively?

I would drop one (or both) Celestial Flare in the sideboard for either Lightning Strike , Mizzium Mortars or more Lightning Helix . Also, if you are using shocklands and temples in real life, I would drop the guildgates and 4 Mountains for the playsets of shocklands and Temples. It is only for the Celestial Flare that I recommend leaning heavier white in your mana base so you have access to them early on.

I wish Lightning Helix were standard, but alas it is not (unless you meant Warleader's Helix ). I do like Celestial Flare because it can deal with anybody that my other forms of removal can't. Blood Baron of Vizkopa , Polukranos, World Eater , Desecration Demon , and others are just super tough to remove without something like the Flare. That's why I think two are normally enough. The extra Lightning Strike is an idea that I've been grappling with. I had some mainboarded but I dropped them in favor of Magma Jet .

I would add the Temples and shocklands to the list here, but it would drive the deck price up by about $75. The point I want to stress here by posting the deck is that a solid deck can be created for about $50, especially with the help of this great community. Performance can easily be enhanced by adding playsets of temples/shocks, but this usually requires an investment of around $80. The deck I want to share with people is a base version that can be incrementally enhanced through further investment. But you're totally right on all points as far as the mana base goes.

For the SB, Mizzium Mortars would be a great replacement for the two Flares. But this would drive our price up by about $10.

Gotta get those Soldier of the Pantheon in there. It might not make the budget cut, but if you have, or can get, them... Run the hell out of them for your actual FNM list. It's really, really good. I even run them as part of my SB in Azorius Control.

Paradoxical:

Yeah, those guys are A-list performers, all right. Amazing 1-drops!

MCY998:

Tajic God-beard is a super star, but he is a touch slow for the primary strategy. Same story for Assemble the Legion . I want to include them in the sideboard for longer games vs control and for fun. Chained to the Rocks is incredible, but it's a bit out of budget for the Brigade. Gotta do what we can for $50! :)

Don't forget to +1, guys! With your help we can bring the legion the honour it deserves!
