Tempo vs. Control —Jan. 24, 2017

So the deck seems to be at a crossroads, and I'm unsure of which way to take. I can continue down this Spells-centric route but I'll need more sorceries making Torrential Gearhulk progressively worse and worse. Conversely, I can use value-oriented creatures like Spell Queller, Archangel Avacyn  Flip, Thraben Inspector, Fairgrounds Warden and Whirler Virtuoso among others. The biggest problem here is I don't get Reflector Mage so I'm unsure of its functionality...

So I'm curious what the peanut gallery thinks? Value Town? or Hard Control?

Id take out the fire weavers for 4 Anticipates

I threw this together super fast, Fireweaver makes the combo better because of the ping. But Anticipate definitely belongs in the list

The tokens she create have haste. Like in the original twin cobo you kill through damage, no need for ping

If you're that worried about a Fog, I suggest throwing Fireweavers in the side. Otherwise it's not very useful redundancy.

Edit: whoops didn't mean to suggest Fog

Hi Zaueski, i was waiting to see your take on this combo, and it looks pretty solid.I'd prefer it in frontier though. My suggestion is Spell Queller instead of the fireweavers, sinve it's good with baral and it's a flashy tempo beater

You guys are probably right, I just threw this together to see the potential... Over the course of the week I'll refine this but say hello to Standard for the next forever lol. This will be everywhere... I'm halfway expecting a ban announcement.

Edit: I was wrong, Spell Queller hasn't sinergy with baral, I always considered it a counter but it isn't, it exiles the spell.Maybe It's a good option though

Just through together my own version, Standard Twinless Twin. From goldfishing it definitely seems like it has potential. I already have an infinite combo deck in standard but it looks like i might need to get another one. I know Wizards set out to create a format where players would feel like inventors and appeal to the their "johny side", but they surpassed my expectations by a pretty large amount.

I think Reflector Mage would be better for this deck than the fire weavers. It synergies with Saheeli and felidar guardian, and it helps you stay alive long enough to combo off, rather than just enhancing your combo slightly.

You might want to add some dual lands, even some of the cheaper ones such as Highland Lake and Stone Quarry would really help with consistency, while Battle Lands such as Prairie Stream or the Shadow Lands/man-lands would be even better.

Read the description, I'm not making this budget. The dual lands will be added later, I just hate tweaking them a million times over as I slowly edit the list. Assume the mana base is perfect, unless you're disputing the number of lands, and tell me what you think of the deck itself.

I'd suggest playing as many Harnessed Lightning as you can. Shock is another good one, but maybe only two? three might be okay but you need to make sure you aren't focusing to hard on the combo to win. Fumigate should make an appearance because token decks and +1/+1 counter decks will be your down fall, it can also help turn the corner against aggro, perhaps two? obviously don't play your Felidar Guardian into it. Negate probably could see main board play as a one or two of, red decks will be looking to Shock Saheeli to kill her once you try to combo off, control will be trying to counter your pieces or outright kill them. Your sideboard also needs some form of enchantment removal and probably more then usual because of Authority of the Consuls one mana stop you from playing magic. (Aside from winning with Torrential Gearhulk ) I think you will find the mana base rather simple to create and I wont need to make any suggestions regarding that. You may also find you only want to play three Saheeli Rai

Biggest problem with Saheeli is you almost never want to play her on T3 but in order to keep up the tempo, you need to get her out at least by T4.

Enter Sram's Expertise, which actually takes care of 2 problems inherent with Saheeli. Essentially you play the Expertise for 4 Mana, create 3 dorks which helps Saheeli protect herself. Then you play Saheeli for free and immediately +1 her to get her out of Shock range and Scrying to hopefully see Felidar Guardian on top for your next turn. Otherwise you could at least have 2 turns to try and find your win-con.
