Psionic Sliver Discussion

You did not mention a format this is for but there are other ways to keep his creatures off of you. Even with slivers. Have you tried the following:

Psionic Sliver or Constricting Sliver or Acidic Sliver or Telekinetic Sliver or Necrotic Sliver?

Having a way to make slivers makes Necrotic Sliver probably game-ending if not addressed. Use a Sliver Hive to make slivers and then use the Necrotic Sliver's ability to destroy their creatures, then their lands. Game over.

Maze of Ith has other friends like Ice Floe.

Screeching Sliver can back up Psionic Sliver as a kill condition, letting you mill out the opponent, and help make your deck modern legal by replacing Metallic Sliver.

Icbrgr, thanks for the comment and +1, the hive appreciates it. The combo potential of Venom Sliver is great, as Deathtouch is just a wonderful ability. Quilled Sliver's ability is also great, but it does leave much to be desired. The strict stipulation of having to target an attacking or blocking creature really limits the combo's viability. A similar Sliver, Thorncaster Sliver is also pretty lackluster. I wish for I could get a slightly improved Psionic Sliver. It's design simply falls short of a Prodigal Sorcerer, which I believe it's supposed to be, but a Sliver. Quilled Sliver isn't bad, but its not optimized.

Hah, well that combo is a bit too janky...and doesn't work. I just realized as the sliver untaps and taps again, it'll end up killing itself. Let me try another combo...

Magma Sliver + Burning Anger - This seems slightly less jank, and slightly more practical. The only problem is is that you have to have a decent sliver presence on the board, and enough mana available to cast the spell CMC is a little bit hefty IMO. But I definitely think nobody would see this coming.

I'm still trying to find something more viable regarding the previously mentioned Psionic combo, maybe this would be better - Quicksilver Dagger + Any Sliver + Mind Over Matter. This seems less jank, IMO.

I feel that Psionic Sliver is just an example of potential lost. I think the R&D folks who designed it just dropped the ball. They should've made it a 1/1 for - all slivers have deal 2 damage to target creature or player. Also make it mythic, rather than rare. It'd be a good sliver, but super glassy and easy to deal with...but the important part is that it'd be a worthwhile contribution to the hive, and a good creature outside of being a sliver. Produgal Sliver, it is not. Oh well. Hope these combos seem more worthwhile.

Okay, so my original suggestion was too aggro...well this is a rather wonky combo, so take it worth a grain of salt but...

Watcher Sliver + Psionic Sliver + Curiosity + Mind Over Matter - Basically you'll just tap a sliver, deal 2 damage to target opponent, draw a card. Discard said card to untap target sliver, tap them again to deal 2 damage, draw, etc. All I can say is that nobody would see that combo coming...and it's not infinite.

Acidic Sliver, Psionic Sliver, Screeching Sliver all give a way to win without combat and you already have Cautery Sliver.

You could also use Mindlash Sliver or Mindwhip Sliver, not ways to win but gives you something different to do.

And I'm reaching here but maybe you could find a way to use Plague Sliver? It would be hilarious if a sliver deck killed opponents with this. Maybe give people Hivestone? Like I said I'm reaching with this one, much more likely to backfire...

Possible removals include Amoeboid Changeling, Crystalline Sliver OR any sliver that targets a sliver, and effects which you already get from another source like +1/+1. and really I think a Coat of Arms, Door of Destinies, and Sliver Legion is probably enough buffing.

May want to also consider more reanimation with all the sacrifice I suggested.

SC25: The main point of Hivestone is to make any creature I steal with Amoeboid Changeling get all the buffs of a sliver.

staroceansurfer: I use Venom Sliver and Psionic Sliver as a board wipe that can be used repeatedly by using Sliver Hivelord.

There are several Sliver I think your amiss in dismissing:

Bonescythe Sliver, for cheap double strike.
Brood Sliver, for massive Sliver production.
Harmonic Sliver, for artifact/enchantment removal.
Heart Sliver, for cheap haste.
Magma Sliver, for massive gains.
Manaweft Sliver, as a backup Gemhide Sliver.
Necrotic Sliver, to turn every Sliver into a Vindicate.
Shifting Sliver, to make your team unblockable.
Sinew Sliver, as another Muscle Sliver.
Virulent Sliver, to only have to deal ten, not 40.
Winged Sliver, for more flying.

Other Slivers you might consider: Basal Sliver, Cautery Sliver, Darkheart Sliver, Essence Sliver, Groundshaker Sliver, Horned Sliver, Spined Sliver, Spitting Sliver, Lymph Sliver, Megantic Sliver, Opaline Sliver, Psionic Sliver, Pulmonic Sliver, Screeching Sliver, Sedge Sliver, Sliver Legion, Sliver Queen, Sliver Overlord, Synapse Sliver, Synchronous Sliver, and Syphon Sliver.

Tribal stuff:
Cavern of Souls, obviously.
Descendants' Path, if you want to go heavy tribal.
Metallic Mimic, for extra buffs at low cost.
Obelisk of Urd, for more huge buffs.
Stoneforge Masterwork, for massive tribal buff.
Belbe's Portal
Urza's Incubator
Patriarch's Bidding
