Sliver Tribal deck building, need help

Commander Deck Help forum

So I am building Sliver Tribal with Sliver Overlord, and I have the slivers kind of set, However, I am struggling to figure out what non-sliver cards I should include. And what some sliver win conditions are outside of Infinite combos with Sliver Queen, and anthems like Legion Sliver or Coat of Arms

I do have a $150 budget so nothing crazy expensive

Is the $150 budget for the entire deck? Because Sliver Queen is listed at $110 by herself.

Also, given the amount of protection that your slivers get, you don't need both Sliver Legion and Coat of Arms. You're better off running replacing coat with more tutors like Green Sun's Zenith and Finale of Devastation (which can also act as a win condition).

As for non Sliver cards, I personally would recommdn things like Birds of Paradise, Deathrite Shaman (depending on fetch count) and a few other non-sliver creatures, though I know this is an unpopular opinion with tribal sliver building.

Dont play overloard as your general he gets boring fast. As for a win con just play a bunch of stuff and swing. Giving your stuff evasion helps. Path of Ancestry , Kindred Charge and Kindred Discovery are all solid non sliver cards. You have access to any removal counterspell or board wipe in the game so the options are pretty much endless there

You 100% play Overlord if you want the best chance at winning. You can take a look at my list if you want some ideas We Are The Hive. Resistance Is Futile.

Beastmaster Ascension and Triumph of the Hordes are solid win cons if you're turning stuff sideways. Just make sure you have enough answers/draw/ramp to back your boys up or they'll be in for some chop.

Amoeboid Changeling is a great way to make an opponents commander a sliver and then steal it with something like Sliver Overlord's ability

Crypt Sliver with Gemhide Sliver or Manaweft Sliver give infinite mana and then you can tutor your whole deck

then of course add that in with Necrotic Sliver and you can wipe everyones board and you have the only board presence

and with all that bouncing and regenerating you can use Lavabelly Sliver to end it

ChinoEX for some people having a fun deck is more important then having a deck that plays the same every single time.

Hoobynobber7395 how do those slivers make infinte mana?

April 30, 2020 11:07 a.m.

shadow63 sorry forgot to put in Basal Sliver

April 30, 2020 11:20 a.m.

interaction would be:

1.tap Gemhide Sliver add one mana of any color

2.sac it fromBasal Sliver's ability get two black mana, thats now 3 floating

3.tap Manaweft Sliver to regenerate Gemhide Sliver

4.sac Manaweft Sliver now 5 floating mana

5.tap Gemhide Sliver regenerate Manaweft Sliver

6.sac Gemhide Sliver

7.repeat 3-7

shadow63 the thing that makes Slivers get old, fast, is when you don't win. Playing Slivers in a conventional way - just attacking - will put you at the mercy of this particular tribes greatest weakness: board wipes. People will start running them aplenty when they catch a whiff of your one dimensional strategy. The strength of running Sliver Overlord is that he offers you the versatility to run multiple strategies. Saying that Slivers plays the same way every single time because you run Overlord is hyperbolic, and frankly, just tells me you haven't played Slivers enough.

I played plenty of games with sliver overlord you just tutor up your best slivers. But if you keep getting blown out by sweepers play stuff like Basal Sliver or Sliver Hivelord. Theres also Kindred Boon. Theres no reason to be getting blown out by boardwipes in slivers. But some people would rather play a deck that plays differently every game then one that has a slightly higher chance of getting the win. Also slivers are really good at rebuilding a board state especially if you use The First Sliver in the command zone

my bad, i misunderstood regenerate. maybe Psionic Sliver instead?

HorseTribalLord i mean, you can take a look at my deck, see how long i've been playing Slivers (add several more years to that because it was my first EDH deck long before they renamed it to Commander lol) and consider yourself to be in good hands as far as advice. I would also recommend taking a look through the the Sliver Overlord Primer over at mtgsalvation. That has helped many a Sliver player in their journey of building their deck. Cheers!

I always enjoy an opportunity to talk about Slivers, and am only sad that I didn't find this forum post sooner! I'll happily give my two cents to each question:

1. what non-sliver cards I should include?

That's a rather open ended question, but taking your budget of $150 into account the absolute most important thing in a Sliver deck (besides slivers) would be the manabase. Gemhide and Manaweft Slivers can only get you so far. I suggest you invest in the more budget options for 5c decks, namely:

  • Mirage Fetchlands: Are constantly overlooked by their hotter younger siblings, but are still viable for any mutli-colored deck on a budget.
  • The Bond lands: Still at a great price point.
  • Shadowmoor/Eventide Filter lands - These are on the pricier end of a budget scale, but come in handy.
  • Shocklands - Are also a bit pricey, but are amazing if you can spare the cash/trade your way up to them
  • Odyssey Filter lands - solid lands that aren't highly pursued. Only allied colors have been printed though.
  • Triome lands - These are fun lands and can be fetched by the previously mentioned Mirage fetchlands.

2. What (are) some sliver win conditions are outside of Infinite combos with Sliver Queen, and anthems like Legion Sliver or Coat of Arms?

So that's a tough one - the vast majority of wins with Slivers are going to be Combat damage (Going wide) or Combo ala Sliver Queen and Mana Echoes (or Heartstone and Ashnod's Altar if you're a hipster). But one strategy that is kind of overlooked is Voltron using your commander (Going tall) with the Slivers in your deck serving as the Auras and Equipment. The usual suspects would be Bonescythe and Shifting Sliver, where you'd be putting your opponents a two turn clock. Another non-Queen or Legion option would be Spiteful Sliver (Or Stuffy Sliver as some call him) and some sort of Blasphemous Act effect. Get a field full of Slivers and drop that spell and you could surprise blow everyone out on the table with a ton of damage to the face.

Personally, I don't recommend anthem effects that also help out your opponents (like Coat of Arms) because tribal decks are very popular and such a card can be turned against you. You don't need all the Slivers in a Sliver deck: Decide how you want to win, and pick the Slivers that best support that strategy. Try and keep the number of Slivers around 25 or less - you don't need all the keywords, just the right ones.

If you ever want to look at another Sliver build, I take a great deal of pride in my own - check out The Queen's Egg and drop a +1 if you feel so inclined. Good luck in building your deck.

Oh, and a tangential thought: Having a strategy where you can populate the board quickly goes really nice Stuffy Sliver. Two Slivers that came to mind were Brood Sliver and Bonescythe Sliver. Their synergy or combo plays as follows:

Bonescythe Sliver grants each sliver Double strike, giving them two combat damage assignment steps. When you combine that with Brood Sliver you gain 1 Sliver creature token generated per combat damage step that assigns damage to an opponent. A sliver doubling season if you will.

So, with the previously mentioned on the battlefield you could have a large amount of tokens on the board that would give you many more Stuffy Sliver damage assignments.

Mortlocke thanks a lot for the tips/ideas, and I checked out your deck and it is absolutely awesome. I wish I had the money to buy something like that so its definitely got a like from me

Me: Laughs in Sliver Hivelord + Crystalline Sliver.

Tell me another joke. But in all seriousness, that's not an issue with the tribe - it's an issue where there isn't enough interaction built into the deck. If you are in 5c, you should be running Counterspell, Negate, alot of "no, you may not" if your meta decides to shift hard in removing a large number of creatures.
