Thats a good question JonRock and Ive had similar thoughts when it comes to something like Door of Destinies. I usually name Werewolf just to catch the Eldrazi-Wolves but I suppose it comes down to what you need more of or which creatures are more critical at the time. I guess if you only run the human werewolves then naming human covers you.

What Wizno said. I run a couple of non-werewolf humans and some wolves but it is still better for the most part to choose Werewolf when picking for cards like Caverns. If you don't run any of the Weredrazi then it would probably be best for you to say human. I don't even see it as watering down your theme.

Also, since you are already running a couple of humans, have you considered Kessig Cagebreakers

I'm curious to know if anyone has incorporated Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip or Shapers' Sanctuary into their werewolf decks? The former seems solid in any green deck and the latter seems like a suitable form of deterrence for that werewolves could benefit from since Gruul is not the ideal card drawing color combination (plus the Sanctuary with Silverfur Partisan seems like a real solid deterrence package once it's up an running).

I put Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip into my deck and I have to say, it works well. Both sides have merit in a green deck that cares about creatures in its board state and I highly recommend it, especially if you have good mana sinks. Shapers' Sanctuary seems really fun but I have yet to try it. I often find myself in games where single target removal is scarce so it wouldn't come up often for me.

While we are on the topic of questionable additions to the 99, what do you guys think of Kindred Summons and Kindred Charge? Would these be good includes for Werewolves or do we not have enough power to make it worthwhile?

October 16, 2017 3:04 p.m.

Wizno says... #6

I could see some merit to Kindred Summons and have playing around with the idea of including myself (maybe cutting something like Signal the Clans). Im more skeptical of Kindred Charge though. Six mana is a lot and while it can be a blowout card, I think its dependent on flipping your werewolves or having a lot of set up to buff the human side to make it a huge swing. I think something like Triumph of the Hordes is a bit scarier personally since its lower on the curve and doesnt require as much damage to get through to end a game for someone. My two cents for your question TheACTR but I can see the argument going either way. I would love to hear in general what cards from C17 and Ixalan everyone has been testing and what the results have been. Vanquisher's Banner was an all-star for me last week and while its a bit more conservative than Coat of Arms, I think its a safer player now that people have tribal on the mind and the added card draw in Gruul is a huge perk.

So I got a tiny bit more info on the future of werewolves from MaRo via his blog.

The three Werewolves that predate Innistrad were all monoblack. If Werewolves show up on another world, I could see us making them black/green.

So perhaps one day well finally get a true Jund werewolf commander!

October 22, 2017 2:56 p.m.

TheACTR says... #8

That wouldn't hurt my feelings any. Jund makes a lot more since than Temur or Maya from a Vorthos standpoint. We would need more support in black though before running Jund would be worth it. All we have is 3 to 6 possible creature inclusions (if you count changelings) most of which are only okay inclusions so most of the black right now would be black, Golgari or Rakdos good stuff. Maybe some stuff like Patriarch' s Bidding or Kindred Dominance.

JonRock says... #9

I know he isn't technically a werewolf, but jund colours would open up running Garruk Relentless, who makes werewolves and is Innistrad flavour.

Also in case you haven't seen we got some pictures from FTV lore today and there will be Huntmaster with new art in it.

Thanks JonRock! The new Huntmaster looks gorgeous and Im very excited to see the werewolf side. Ive heard people saying it may be a pre-spark version of Arlinn Kord based on her facial scar. Im super stoked for some shiny werewolves! In regards to your earlier post, I agree that Garruk Relentless is an honorary include as a werewolf and I think I read that his slot in the set was intended for the OG legendary werewolf. But hopefully well get a Jund werewolf to give the best of all worlds!

JonRock says... #14

So my friend gave me a Shaper's Sanctuary tonight so I'll be testing that in Werewolves, finally getting to the point of cutting Blades of Velis Vel which was a blowout a couple times, but isn't quite up to flavour snuff.

In terms of Kindred Summons and Charge, I can see Summons being good as sort of a more immediate Descendants' Path, Charge I'm not really a fan of in this deck, I feel it would work better in a deck with more ETB creatures, like Allies, in Werewolves since we don't really have many ETBs, it feels like you should just pay the extra 2 mana and play Insurrection and get rid of all their blockers while getting a big board.

Firstly, I love the new Huntmaster art. It is sweet. I wonder what else will appear in the FTV: Transform package. We have 7 Transform walkers and we know Liliana is in the list so it is likely there could be others. Alternate art Arlinn or Garruk would be sweet. Secondly, I agree with JonRock on Kindred Charge. There is just no good way to abuse it with werewolves. At best you have a bunch of temporary clones that could help with an all out attack but there are much better cards for that. Summons seems fun but I am still skeptical. Thirdly, I would like to say that I also consider Garruk Relentless as an honorary werewolf and would certainly include him in my deck if I were a Jund player. I am actually working on such a build right now with Shattergang Brothers as the Commander. I will try to post my very rough first draft soon and would love opinions on must haves and such.

November 3, 2017 9:20 a.m.

JonRock says... #16

Shattergang Brothers eh? Anything in particular drawing you to them?

Well since you're in Rakdos colours I'd suggest one of my personal favorite EDH cards Rakdos Charm, when 2 modes pretty much say win the game and the third is still a useful getcha how can you not run it, I know it isn't very themed, but I look at it like Bojuka Bog, toss in the easy gravehate in those colours it will never be too bad.

November 3, 2017 9:08 p.m.

TheACTR says... #17

The biggest reason for the Brothers is the value they offer. Plus I didn't want to use someone like Kresh or Prossh. But with Black being king in reanimation I figured having a sac outlet would be nice. Especially with cards like Kessig Cagebreakers, Garruk Relentless, Patriarch's Bidding and the like.

Also, I second Rakdos Charm. Good card.

https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/see-cards-vault-transform-2017-11-06

So here's the FTV:Transform full spoilers, most notable for us is we get to see new Huntmaster's backside, new art for Garruk Relentless, and Arlinn made it in. I personally really like what they did with the Set Symbol being different on each face.

Also while I'm posting, I wanted to ask you all for some opinions, new Huntmaster art has gotten me pretty excited for Werewolves again and I've decided to try doing some foil peel alters for my basics in my deck with the Werewolf side of some of the Weredrazi I'm not putting into my decks, Ulvenwald Captive  Flip and Vildin-Pack Outcast  Flip, I think the Captive works pretty well with my current Forests, but I think I need to get some new Mountains for the Outcast. I did make some mock-ups in paint last night to see how it would look with some different mountains and approaches and was hoping that I could get some input here on what looks good or if you have suggestions for different Mountains.

TheACTR says... #19

They both look pretty sweet although admittedly the forest works better than the mountain. I think it's a swell idea, though, to add a lot of flavor to your deck JonRock

November 7, 2017 7:53 a.m.

JonRock says... #20

So I put together a Mountain and a Forest alter like I said, apparently I can't easy link to alters in my posts like with decks or cards so here's the link to the alter pages,

So I'm done altering the 10 basics that are in the deck currently, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, the Mountains turned out better than expected Werewolf Basics

So on the topic of cards, Cult of the Waxing Moon, has this card ever done anything for any of you? I keep cutting it, but then putting it back in because I dream of getting a ton of wolves and get pulled in by the Magical Christmas Land winmoreness of it.

November 21, 2017 2:32 a.m.

Wizno says... #22

Those look great JonRock!! In regards to your question, Ive cut Cult of the Waxing Moon from my deck. While Ive made transforming about as consistent as one can, I still find the card isnt around enough to get real value and so I cut it in favor of something off flavor: Urabrask the Hidden.

November 21, 2017 7:19 a.m.

TheACTR says... #23

I also cut Cult of the Waxing Moon in favor for a more powerful, off-flavor card. I really like the idea of the small benefit it provides for our beasties transforming but it is only always 1 or 2 wolves for me before it dies. If it had less CMC, more relevant typing or something I would include it. Just for me, by the time I get it out I can't really capitalize on it.

November 21, 2017 7:44 a.m.

TheACTR says... #24

I almost feel the same with Silverfur Partisan. I have no doubt the card is good but I almost never run into a situation where I am able to trigger it or my opponent is willing to trigger it. Usually it is followed by a board wipe.

November 21, 2017 9:07 a.m.

JonRock says... #25

Wizno Thanks for the compliment!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's found Cult lacking, like it reads cool, but it's so expensive and you have to basically then also take the next turn off before you get value from it, so it's even slower.

TheACTR I can see the Silverfur Partisan being not good enough to make it in a deck that doesn't have a lot of instants and sorceries, I've never really had it give me stuff from my opponent at all either.
