Looking into building $20 budget edh deck for multi player. The budget includes the general so please don't mention the mikaeus deck. Based on tcg low.

Thanks for the help and input

Ok. Well, first off, you need to provide additional information for anyone to be able to help you.

  • What theme/archetype do you want? Control, Aggro, Combo, STAX, Group Hug?

  • What commander are you using?

  • If no commander, what colors are you wanting to use?

  • And then which commander of those colors work for you?

  • What do you have already, so people won't be suggesting cards you already got.

Info is important for people to truly help you with what you're wanting to build.

skoolxbo1,
$20 is really tough, but check out Abe Sargent's Budget Commander series for playable decks at the $30 price point.

His latest article is here and links to his others are at the bottom.

Maybe pick one of those and let us know who. Then, like Raging_Squiggle says, we can better help you.

Is the $20 restriction some deck building challenge you guys are doing? Expecting to build a fully functional deck for less than the price of one of the pre-cons is a bit of a stretch.

If it is a challenge that your playgroup is doing then you could use Asmira, Holy Avenger and make a tokens deck. You could use protection from creatures and situational unblockable enchantments and equipment like Champion of Lambholt, Holy Mantle, Unquestioned Authority, Canopy Cover, Prowler's Helm, Trailblazer's Boots, or Whispersilk Cloak to make commander damage a wincon. Cathars' Crusade and Fungal Sprouting are nice additions to token decks and there are a lot of inexpensive token creating cards. Add in a few of the P/T equals number of creatures cards like Crusader of Odric and Geist-Honored Monk and you are well on your way to a super budget deck. Although it will not stand up to much that has access to many sweepers or instances of targeted removal.

Wow some of those cards have spiked since I last made this suggestion to someone when he was looking for all cards under $1. If you find LP/MP versions of some of those cards instead of NM you can probably still keep it under $20.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. It is a challenge our group is trying. The reason I didn't provide a general or color is because I still have no clue what to build yet at all. All the content and advice I've received so far is definitely helpful for my research!

Is that a strict $20? Or are basic lands excluded?

For obvious "land base is expensive" reasons, you will want to avoid 3+ colors, and one color would probably be best. I would probably go with Yisan, the Wanderer Bard as a commander, then load my lower CMC creatures with commons, the midrange CMC creatures as a mix of commons/uncommons, and the top end as a mix of rares/uncommons.

I have a cheapo Radiant, Archangel deck. Just throw in a ton of fliers and spells that makes birds or spirits, and you'll be swinging with a flying 12/12 in no time.

Ad Nauseam + Maralen of the Mornsong + Sickening Dreams combo. Play Maralen and fetch Ad Nauseam. Use AN to draw your whole deck. Cast Dark Sphere to save yourself then cast Sickening Dreams. Might be able to squeeze an Elixir of Immortality or Dark Ritual so if it gets disrupted you can try again.

Ashling the Pilgrim + 99 mountains. But you can throw a Darksteel Plate in there too if you so wish.

Both gimmick decks, but both are under $20

Another gimmick deck is Maelstrom Wanderer, 97 lands, a Walk the Aeons and a Charmbreaker Devils.
