I am getting a lot of different feedback, but I'm okay with it. I like to see how different people would look at the same situation. It's been of great help.
It's a rather difficult decision... as I said I'm going to test it a bit with friends. If I miss it I'll toss Increasing Devotion back in... probably replacing... maybe a Lightning Greaves and a Mayor of Avabruck Flip.

At the very least it will probably go into my sideboard soon.
March 10, 2015 5:48 p.m.
I try not to rely on "if's", "if" I can avoid it. I would say Avacyn's Pilgrim is an "if" of a mana ramp. I'd say I want at least 8 ramp cards to rely on them to accelerate big plays.
I don't particurly like Mayor of Avabruck Flip because the flip ability is annoying and divergent, but I believe it's a common core card in Human decks. That said, I also avoid swapping in bigger cards for smaller ones. Of course the bigger card is more powerful. That's why it costs more. But you only get that potentcy if you get to play it.
What are the Greaves for again? I don't see any specific creature an opponent would target. I'd sideboard it at most.
It's your deck, and I don't want you to think what I'm saying is the best idea. They're my ideas, and I like making arguments about which cards are good and which aren't. It helps me think about the game and be a sharper player. I hope my thoughts help you and others to think about what will work well and what won't.

I see what you mean, I think Avacyn's Pilgrim and Explore will probably be enough. The only big cards I really have anymore are Angelic Overseer and Mikaeus, the Lunarch.
I've looked everywhere for a card like Mayor of Avabruck Flip that doesn't transform. The best thing I found was Adaptive Automaton. The CMC is one higher so I think Mayor of Avabruck Flip will probably work a bit better.Even if he does transform he spits out 3/3 Wolves every turn. At the very least they can be chump blockers.
When I mainboarded them I though I might strap them to Mikaeus, the Lunarch to protect him from removal spells... but upon reflection it's really situational. The guy I play the most has an annoying removal deck so that's probably why I mainboarded them.
It's really helped honestly. Being a new player having discussions like these help me see whats important to a good deck and what is just fluff that really doesn't synergize well. I think my deck is better for it.

I second kamarupa on ditching the greaves, I don't feel like they do enough here. Also, I didn't notice that you had taken your explores out so he's also right in saying that your short in the mana ramp department. But that's not too big a deal considering you don't really need it in this current build. I personally would trade the Honor of the Pures for Obelisk of Urds, and the Lightning Greaves for Increasing Devotion or maybe another land or two. But again, it's your deck, you do what you thinks best. You've done well with it so far, keep up the good work!

Thanks! I've been working on this deck since day one of learning how to play Magic. I'm really happy how far it's come!
I'm planning on ordering some Obelisk of Urds actually, it's in my aquireboard. It's a pretty nice card.
I just sideboarded Lightning Greaves for Explores.

I think Fertile Ground is better than Explore when it comes to ramping. Explore only ramps if you have an extra land to play. The draw card is nice, but not enough to convince me. If you could afford Temple Garden, you might even be able to use Utopia Sprawl. Really though, even a set of Sun Petal Grove would help a lot. We haven't really talked about the lands. Improving the lands always speeds things up and helps a deck run smoothly.

I realized that problem with Explore today when I played. I had it in my hand for quite a while and had no reason to play it. It's pretty good if you have it in your opening hand, but besides for that... not really.
Fertile Ground does look like the better choice in this situation.
Question: Why would I need Temple Garden to use Utopia Sprawl?
March 10, 2015 9:24 p.m.
PerfectDisguise says... #11
You don't HAVE to have temple garden to use Utopia Sprawl. It just helps because it counts as an extra forest that you can enchant. Btw, I totally agree with kamarupa, Utopia Sprawl is much better than Explore, especially if you fix your lands

Ohhh I see what you're saying now. Would it work the same with Sunpetal Grove? I'd really like to get a set of four of those to replace my Selesnya Guildgate.
Utopia Sprawl is fantastic, it's much better than Explore. I'll have to pick up some of those.
I also would like some Gavony Townships to help pump up my creatures.
March 10, 2015 9:58 p.m.
PerfectDisguise says... #13
No it won't work with Sunpetal Grove since it's not labeled as a forest, Still wouldn't hurt to throw a few in her though. And ya I think Gavony Township would fit well in here
March 10, 2015 10:07 p.m.
Utopia Sprawl only works with Forests, so no, it will not work with Sunpetal Grove. The card must say "Forest" where creature cards say the type. Fertile Ground is stronger, and more versatile, but also costs double the mana. Then again, I believe it's cheaper in $ than Utopia Sprawl.
But then I was thinking, wouldn't it be better to get a creature that ramps? I had to do some refreshing, but my searches yielded some great options I'd forgotten about: Noble Hierarch, Steward of Valeron, and Scorned Villager Flip all seem like good fits and better than running land enchantments. I do love me some Utopia Sprawl though - very useful ramp and fix that fits in many decks.

Oh okay, I see. Temple Garden is Forest / Plains and Sunpetal Grove is just a Land.

PierreThePlaneswalker says... #16
Oh great finds. I'm up for creature ramps, it will help get more creatures on the field.
I REALLY like Noble Hierarch I can tap for Plains for Forest, then being a human they'll get the buffs.
I actually own Scorned Villager Flip but I didn't realize what it does. Even if it transforms it's a good ramp card. I think I'll swap them in for my Explores for now.
March 10, 2015 10:26 p.m.

Scorned Villager Flip seems like a good idea. Also works well with Mayor of Avabruck Flips flip
March 10, 2015 10:28 p.m.
Yes, I thought it went well with the Mayor, too, and it doesn't cost $40+ per like Noble Hierarch
March 10, 2015 10:37 p.m.
PierreThePlaneswalker says... #19
Yeah, good point, it does make Mayor of Avabruck Flip's flip less useless.
March 10, 2015 10:37 p.m.
PierreThePlaneswalker says... #20
Noble Hierarch costs FOURTY dollars?!
Holy crap, never mind I'm happy with my Scorned Villager Flips.
March 10, 2015 10:40 p.m.
With the mana situation much stronger, I think it's safe to swap 2 Gather the Townsfolk for 2 Increasing Devotion
I'm worried that Bonds of Faith and Journey to Nowhere aren't enough interaction. Now that you're up to 27 creatures+ Tokens, I think we should prune that back a little and try to squeeze in some Oblivion Ring. It's especially good because it works on pretty much everything - Planeswalkers, Artifacts, Enchantments. I would cut Hamlet Captain for it.
March 10, 2015 10:45 p.m.
PierreThePlaneswalker says... #22
Awesome, I'm liking these ramping effects, Increasing Devotion is a good card to have back.
I didn't notice that about Oblivion Ring. Hamlet Captain is probably the best choice to cut. I've noticed he isn't quite as effective as I thought he might be when I put him in. Mayor of Avabruck Flip is probably suffice in that department.
I'll throw some in. Luckily I own Oblivion Rings.

I've been looking at Doubling Season for a quite a while but it's price tag is off - putting.
Maybe some day though though!
March 10, 2015 11:21 p.m.
ew. yea. I didn't look up the price. I was poking around looking for cards for an Exalted deck I just started and it reminded me of this deck. BTW, did you know you can play Magic online for free? I play at Untap.in, but there are other sites, too.
PerfectDisguise says... #1
The CMC is a bit high but it's such a great card for this deck. And with your mana ramp I don't think it's be to much of a problem. But it's your deck so do what works best for you. I know you're getting a lot of different types of feedback. Hope I'm not confusing you too much.
