Dredge4life - You have to remember that the EDH rules committee is determined to keep the format 'fun,' in their strictest sense of the word. Whether or not something is too good doesn't matter. If it can be played in a mono-blue deck, it won't be banned.

My above comment is meant to be studip as well as blatantly state my contempt for the EDH rules committee.

so what would be a good competitive(tier one, tier two) stax commander? I'm a horrible judge when it comes to this.

trollslayer: New Emrakul isn't playable, let alone banworthy. It won't be touched.

The best three stax commanders in the format are Brago, King Eternal, Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, and Teferi, Temporal Archmage in approximately that order. Links to decklists for all three can be found in the description. Right below those are Arcum Dagsson, Zur the Enchanter (no list because he's better as a fast combo deck) and Captain Sisay.

@ trollslayer - If you are willing to settle for T3 or you don't like the options mentioned (which are all great) then Zedruu the Greathearted is solid as well. The P-Walker Teferi definitely allows you to function better under stacks but then again getting free cards for making people miserable is also great an leads to you drawing more stax pieces.

So, guys, what strategies does this break? I'm thinking Karador since it can fetch Saffi AND Karmic Guide.

enter image description here

Have out a sac outlet like Blasting Station or either Altar in play, play recruiter, fetch saffi, play Saffi, sac saffi targeting Recuiter, sac recruiter, return recruiter, get Guide, go off with the sac outlet.

Not bad for just needing recruiter + outlet. It's important to note you can cast recruiter from the grave too.

Yes because Karador needed more broken cards to work with...Great tutor for white and human tribal has to be getting close to the level of goblins and elves.

Yes when I saw this card I was like "Sweet more ways for mana symbol wmana symbol umana symbol r to tutor permanents!" then I realized that this helps Marath, Will of the Wild more than any Jeskai commander and it also helps Karador even more than that!

Recruiter of the guard can also get Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, who can then copy it to get Pestermite. Mana intensive but ok in jeskai.

Nice catch enpc! I have tried Kiki+Pestermite in my Zedruu deck before but I was unimpressed due to inconsitency. This will help a lot.

kengiczar if you use Long-Term Plans to tutor up the Recruiter as well it can add even more consistency.

New Recruiter is going to be fabulous in a lot of decks. Sadly, he doesn't really break anything. He's not quite as good as Imperial Recruiter in Marath since he can't grab Kiki-Bellringer by himself, but he's still an auto-include.

thanks for the help. iv been trying to break into competitive EDH for a bit, but I never seem to choose the right commander and then build a good deck. This helps a lot.

Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed is cool af, and powerful, but slow and mono black. -- great at the head of a conteol shell, but blown out of the water by better control commanders. Pretty comical as a voltron commander.

I know there was a little chatter about newchesa. But who is ready to turn shit sideways with a situationally better jor kadeen reprint. Adriana is cool but she is kinda useless out of 4+ pods. At least jor gets the flat +3/0 for just owning the artifacts that you would be running for ramp anyway. With Adriana you have to keep up 2 dudes other than her to get her full effect (which is better than jor's to be fair). When will wizards learn that they have to print a card in red white that makes aggro worth playing like card draw for achieving goals in combat, or a degenerate way to win combat that is as fast as combo (but doesn't ruin other formats). I'm not saying I wont play her, since red white is my first love, but she is just as 1 dimensional as all the other Boros dudes (except Anya burn, which is funny).Make edh combat great again 2016 (pls)But it will still be damn satisfying To turn an army of 1/1s, into an army of 4/4s.

@Podkomorka Budget Yisan decks are very good. That's about as cheap as it gets.

Apart from being the only BUG Tiny Leaders Commander, what potential uses do you think he could have? Seems like a better Rayne, and is evil with wheels. You could play stuff like Howling Mine and Font of Mythos, or Teferi's Puzzle Box. I might build a fun, Nekusar-style stax deck around him. What are your thoughts?

August 17, 2016 11:14 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #19

The only problem is that he doesn't have red so wheels are out aside from Dark Deal.

I love the idea of Howling Mine effects though.

Rites of Flourishing too.

Best way to do it politically is cast your group hug cards, then wait a few turns then drop your commander, that way you can do the whole "you've had some cards, it's time to cut you off"

Mishra, Artificer Prodigy should be tier 5. He is bad in commander because his ability doesnt work in commander where you cant have any copy's of cards in your deck. Unless I'm missing something. Can you explain why he is teir 3. I just don't understand.

August 17, 2016 12:11 p.m.

NarejED says... #21

@jhullak: He offers a surprising amount of utility in a stax shell. Cards like Nether Void and Possibility Storm allow him to get a huge amount of mileage off of his ability while ruining the plans of everyone else.

Aggro-Blaster says... #22

He was some weird interaction with certain enchantments. I forgot the cards name, but one of them counters spells everyone plays unless they pay two more mana. Mishra, Artificer Prodigy negates that for you. There are some chaos cards he messes around with too, where he still benefits from them. I'm sorry I don't know the cards name. Hope someone can chime in. Also if I'm wrong on his placement reasons, someone please correct me.

Mishra and Possibility Storm in play. Sol Ring in hand.

Cast Sol Ring. Both Mishra and Possibility Storm trigger. Place Mishra's trigger on first, then Possibility Storm's trigger on top.

Possibility Storm's trigger resolves, putting Sol Ring on bottom. You get a free artifact through Possibility Storm. Mishra's trigger resolves, finding Sol Ring.

You just got a free artifact as well as Sol Ring. Everyone else has to cope with Possibility Storm.

That BUG commander is a powerhouse. What the hell was WOTC thinking?!?! Timetwister, Windfall, Jace's Archivist, and even Day's Undoing put you so far ahead on card advantage that you pretty much will win every game you resolve them. Oh andnif tjey kill him you draw a card... If hes not tier 1 immediately then hes damn close. Op color wedge, efficiently costed with an ability to crush all opponents simultaneously while filling your hand to 7. I am horrified and elated all at once

Aggro-Blaster says... #25

That some powerful interaction, but that's only four cards. And it's not like those cards win you the game. I like where your head is at, but unless more cards along those lines pop up, can he really be that strong?
