This is my first try at a creature free deck, using blue control and red burn to stay on top of things.

The main components of the deck are Isochron Scepter and Pyromancer Ascension, creating some rather intense spell chains (storm might work well here). Isochron Scepter can imprint most of the deck. As there are four copies of almost every instant, setting up Pyromancer Ascension is rather easy.

So, getting the cards you need. Wheel of Fate is excellent, not only does it get you seven new cards, but it helps but some in your graveyard for Pyromancer Ascension and Locket of Yesterdays. All the instants have been selected to work well with Locket of Yesterdays 1 mana discount.

If all else fails to get you the right cards Izzet Charm & Desolate Lighthouse with their draw & discard mechanics comes in handy, it also lets you get rid of surplus cards like that extra Locket of Yesterdays or Gemstone Caverns. Magma Jet also gets the job done, taking out threats at the same time as giving you control over your draw.

The blue spells; Mana Leak, Rune Snag, Cyclonic Rift and (in part) Izzet Charm are all there to keep control. Counter what you must, kill the rest with the red spells; Pyroclasm, Magma Jet and (in part) Izzet Charm.

This deck is anything but fast, and is most of all a response deck. Taking down your opponent takes time: as such Form of the Dragon is an alternative that can finish off your opponent in four rounds, or kill the bigger guys you couldn’t counter/kill. The fact that only flyers are an issue and your life gets set to five every turn can save you many a time. Just watch out for those burn spells!

Not going first? Hope for a Gemstone Caverns. This card is fantastic if you rely on keeping up. It’s a gamble I know, but so sweet when it pays off!

As always all comments and feedback are much appreciated, and I do need help with that sideboard!
