Back in action! —Sept. 23, 2021

After a few years of hiatus, I will be playing Modern again next week. I will post another update after the tournament.

I made a couple of small changes to the deck. Adding Ranger-Captain of Eos to the Main Deck and Brave the Elements to the Sideboard. Ranger-Captain of Eos's activated ability provides protection against Control strategies and its ETB gives semi card advantage in the form of tutoring up a creature. Brave the Elements defends against spot remove or can allow my creatures to attack in without blockers.

Have you had much luck with This? I have been wanting to build something similar. I can't make up my mind on some cards though.

Silverblade Paladin

Grand Abolisher

Serra Ascendant

Martyr of Sands

Benalish Marshal

Fiendslayer Paladin

Mirran Crusader

To name a few. Thoughts?

Forgot too that with all those knights, Knight Exemplar looks good too.

And with so many CMC 1 cost creatures, Aether Vial looks good too.

Also, since you're area dy d splashing green, why not add Hardened Scales and Forced Adaptation.

Sorry for multiposting. I just keep thinking/remembering things because I've been trying to build a FNM viable version of this for some time now.

coffeymichael92, thanks for the questions and suggestions. My win rate by match-up is listed in my latest update if you are wondering how well the deck can win. I have won or gotten top 3 in many medium to large weekly Modern events at multiple LGSs in my area. Statistically overall, since I started playing the deck, my total win percentage is 50%. But that does include games that I lost via misplays. I did notice the more often I played, the more regularly I won.

The green splash is for Gavony Township which isn't really even a necessary factor with regards to winning games. In fact, I may even take it out (along with the Temple Gardens). Don't get me wrong, I love Hardened Scales. I played G/W Hardened Scales during Khans standard. The problem with it in this deck is it fights too hard in the one-drop on turn one slot. Ideally you want to be playing a Soul Sister or a Champion of the Parish turn one.

I used to run Serra Ascendant but because I play very aggressively (which I think is the best plan) my life total never stayed above 30 long enough to make Serra Ascendant effective. Also, its a lightning rod for removal, which can be good, but feels bad if you never get to swing. Martyr of Sands doesn't play well for me either. I tend to play out my hand too quickly to get the pay off and its a dead card late game.

I do really like Benalish Marshal and might replace it with Metallic Mimic.

If you enjoy aggressive, linear game play, this deck is tons of fun. I created a decklist for a budget-ish version if you don't want to commit to this deck's price tag. Check it out here Flying Nuns -- Budget Version.

Thanks for the quick reply, luckily I already own play sets of everything here, as I have run soul sisters, human soldiers, and human knights separate, but figure there is a way to combine them.

coffeymichael92 Cavern of Souls was a bit out of my budget but I don't miss it so I think the deck is fine without it. If you're in a control heavy meta that might be enough reason to justify the investment. Collected Company would be good but I was focused on smoother mana and staying mono white. But a splash might not be so bad.

Yeah I'm in very heavy control meta so I'm playing Grand Abolisher and Cavern of Souls merry christmas to myself on those lol

coffeymichael92 I think this deck's biggest weakness with regards to control is sweepers/wrath effects. You have to play around them and have a way to rebuild after awards. Also, save the Path to Exile for their big threats late game whenever possible. Good luck out there!

what are your thoughts on brave the elements as sideboard card. seems like it would be good against anger of the gods or a number of other direct hate cards and can be good as a unblockable push for lethal.

Felixlives Brave the Elements is good but I prefer Eerie Interlude despite its high mana cost. Flickering my board gets me more ETBs which has more value imo.

I like Dusk Dawn and Return to the Ranks for anti wipe :-)
