BFZ is coming, news update —Sept. 10, 2015
Hey all, thanks for staying so active while I've been away. I've cleaned up the comments just because there were so many, but please feel free to keep discussing.
AN UPDATE IS COMING. I'm planning on revamping this entire Primer with all the new allies, as well as a host of "support cards" that go well with allies. Expect that to happen around the same time BfZ is released!
So far the Battle For Zendikar allies have been disapointing, with a few key exceptions. I'll list the ones I find can be played below, feel free to refute or agree with my claims.
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, obviously not an ally, but this is all I could have hoped for in an ally planeswalker. Ally tokens every turn.
The new Drana - Art not released yet, if you haven't seen her, the new Drana will be [1][B][B], 2/3 Flying first strike, whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on each attacking creature you control.
Zada, Hedron Grinder - Basically an ink-moth nephilim, her ability with cards like Cerulean Wisps or simply Cloudshift could be very exciting.
I'm currently thinking about two decks to run this fall, 4-color midrange-aggro allies using Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, and a 3-color creature combo deck using Zada, Hedron Grinder and Halimar Excavator.
+1 for the effort you have put in this list. But it seems like you have missed the Hardened Scales. This card is HUGE in each green ally-deck...

[Emphroy], I actually mention Hardened Scales in each of my green ally example decks. Though considering its power, I will probably be adding a support spells section in every color sometime soon. I hadn't realized how effective it was until playtesting aubman02's All-in-Allies.

New cards look amazing, and like they're going to cost quite a bit of cash xC
I've been trying to make a very low-budget U/W late game allies deck with some control. My inability to choose and lack of experience in making control-type decks is playing up though. Could you maybe take a look?

I too went crazy for Collected Company. Ojutai's Command seems okay... but as you aid, the mana cost is a bit high on it. It could potentially take the spot of some Talus Paladins though. Avatar of the Resolute looks like it could be good in more green oriented builds, and Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit could find a spot in a more white focused build. Mirror Mockery could be interesting as well. But really the big one is for sure Collected Company. That card is going to be nuts in modern in general.

Thats what I think too, some people don't think Collected Company is going to make much of a difference, but I think they're crazy. I think Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit could go really well in a GW deck with Hardened Scales, if you have both out, any ally that would normally enter with a +1/+1 counter now enters with 4.
I've been seriously considering Mirror Mockery since it can be used both offensively in allies, and defensively against any big threat like Siege Rhino. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a spot for it though.

You think Congregation at Dawn or Juniper Order Ranger have a place in my selesnya, counter based ally deck??
April 27, 2015 9:04 p.m.
Congregation at Dawn no, I think its outclassed at that mana-cost by Lead the Stampede. Although allies can be situational, you rarely need 3 specific ones all at once. If you're interested in playing an Ondu Cleric or Kabira Evangel at instant speed, I'd throw in 2 Chord of Calling. I've been using it in my competitive allies deck, and its working really well, especially with Harabaz Druid.
Juniper Order Ranger however could be good. You can ramp into him as early as turn 3, and he nets you 4 counters with Hardened Scales. However, Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit has a very similar effect for 3 less mana. Granted its one fewer counter since the Ranger puts one on himself, but I would say the 3-mana difference isn't worth that, unless you're running token generators. (Which could work well)

Hmm Chord of Calling seems interesting for sure. I'll take a look at my options thanks

Inspiring call is pretty awesome with allies. Card draw and wrath protection

Inspiring Call can be really good in the right ally deck, but it can also be pretty bad if you don't have a good board state. I might consider 1 or 2 side boarded in a GW aggro deck, but there are better options for the main board.

Hi guys! Can you check my allies deck? every advise is appreciated!

Playing allies seems simple on the surface but now that I've done more testing, knowing what to do and when can get pretty tricky.
May 8, 2015 10:42 a.m.
No kidding. Part of what I love about them is because they've never been tested extensively, there's always room for improvement. You can easily look up the best Tier 1, 2, 3 decks etc...to find out what's good, but with allies you're constantly stumbling across new things.
For example, just a week ago I discovered Alchemist's Refuge, which I had previously forgotten about. Last night I realized that Shapesharer would probably be better than Jwari Shapeshifter in my deck. Evolving decks are the most exciting.

If I can have critiques from the OP and from the community at large, I have made a series of YouTube videos in which I try out my new monowhite Allies deck. Here's one of them:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZlqwvgxwjI&feature=youtu.beThe other videos are on the channel as well, each with the decklist being in the description.

Thoughts on Glaring Spotlight? It provides an early play, which allies can often lack. It can be used as budget alternative for AEther Vial in the sense it provides a turn 1 artifact drop. It could be horrible but I feel it is at least something to consider. You could make a very anti control ally deck and run that with Noxious Revival too.

+1 for this list, good sir! Allies are what I learned to play Magic with, and will always have a special place in my heart.
