Since Doom Foretold was released I've been playing it in Standard, Historic & Pioneer. I've regularly made it into Mythic piloting Doom Foretold & feel I have a fairly good grasp on the archetype, and wanted to try my hand at making it a competitive modern deck.

The challenge with attempting to make a fair card viable is filling out the deck with only the most valuable targets. Central to the theme is the interaction of Doom Foretold and Starfield of Nyx, with the ultimate goal of grinding the opponent into an endless loop of 2/2 knights and discard.

Ideally, the early game is spent disrupting the opponent with Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, Fatal Push, and Trial of Ambition. If we can stick a copy of Trial of Ambition or Omen of the Sea early on, we're in a good spot to transition to the mid-game.

The mid-game is pretty dependent on what you're playing against, and we don't need to be too concerned with turning the corner, because if we pull the trigger too early, we'll be blown out. It's imperative that Starfield of Nyx is able to stick. Teferi, Time Raveler and Narset, Parter of Veils help find pieces, and once you're comfortably in the drivers seat, turning the corner is as easy as slamming Starfield.

Once Starfield of Nyx is on the board, it's pretty easy going from there. Usually repeatedly grabbing Doom Foretold is the best option, as you force an asymmetrical exchange of gaining a 2/2, drawing a card and forcing the opponent to discard, it's incredibly hard for them to recover from there. Alternatively, there is a 1-of copy of Lunar Force which, when paired with Starfield presents a 'soft lock' on our already disadvantaged opponent.

Ultimately, I'm sure I've overlooked some good enchantment targets, or the numbers may be off. Perhaps more early game interaction is needed, or Lunar Force is too cute, but as a starting point I think the deck has promise. Let me know what you think!
