2nd Place FNM! —March 25, 2016
I took 2nd place in a 4-round Modern FNM this past weekend. This deck did work!
Round 1 I was on the play against a UW control deck. Game 1 wasn't a challenge as I got on board with totem armor support before he could get his defenses up. Game 2 saw me draw almost every creature in the deck without drawing many enchantments. His Gideon Jura took over the game from there. Game 3 I was on the play again and curved out with the nut-draw start of T1 creature, T2 Rancor + Ethereal Armor, T3 Umbra + other things. It was sick.
Round 2 I played against a Restore Balance deck, which I think might have had a good matchup against me. Game 1 he wiped the board twice with cascaded Balances, but I always held onto a creature in hand to start rebuilding. Game 1 was a grindfest with be building guys and him wiping them, but I eventually landed a threat to take him out. Game 2 he mulled a few times and got a quick win with a good hand.
Round 3 I was paired down against a budget goblins deck. His main plan was to drop goblins until he played out a Coat of Arms, but it just so happens most of my creatures are elves, so he didn't bother with it. I saw the draw power of Kor Spiritdancer in one of those games, and I definitely need to find 2 more to include in this deck.
Round 4 My UR eldrazi opponent and I decided to split, but since our store pays out in booster packs we played for the extra pack. I took Game 1 with early first strike from me and a slow draw from him making my creature the better in combat. Landing a Daybreak Coronet is game over against Eldrazi since the vigilance is great against them trying to go wide. Games 2 and 3 he had a timely Stubborn Denial (without ferocious) both times I tired to land my trump enchantments (Coronet and Unflinching Courage respectively, leading to him triggering his mimics into huge monsters and going wide enough FTW.
My deck did very well otherwise. I never had to mulligan more than once in any given game, although finding enough enchantments was an issue. I really need to get some Horizon Canopys if I decide to keep this deck for the foreseeable future, as they'll help smooth land-heavy draws or help me dig for answers. I think I'll keep this deck around for a while!
GeminiSpartanX Hey, thanks! That's awesome to hear!
I've been thinking about my deck, I ordered a Spiritdancer and will receive it soon :D
Also, I am replacing Helm of the Gods with two extra Spider Umbras, and I think I will replace 1x Spirit Link with Unflinching Courage, so I will have an extra trample-enabling card (and lifelink). Unflinching has great value, if nothing else. I will now have two 3-drops, which is the same as the deck you mentioned, but will not be running two courages, I have the Battle Mastery instead (highly reccomended). But for the love of everything, remove Spirit Loop :P
Thanks!

Bovine073- Lol don't worry, the Spirit Loop is just a placeholder until I get a hold of a Spirit Link or 2. I might follow the winning lists' lead and go down to 2 Hyena Umbras in the MD to fit in a 3rd path for the tougher matchups in my meta (Infect, UR Eldrazi, Abzan Company).

Is MD 'Maindeck'? I always say MB (Mainboard) :P
If I were to cut umbras, it would be spider. The first strike is valuable. Very valuable. I wouldn't cut umbras in the first place though honestly. I have 4 paths, it works well against infect.

Yes, MD is 'maindeck'. It seems to be what most people on this site use. The theory of cutting Hyena Umbra is because both Ethereal Armor and Daybreak Coronet give first strike as well, so it helps to keep as many different keywords as possible even though first strike is stronger than reach in a vacuum.

Well, even still I would prefer two instances of strike given the possibility that I might not have more than one.
Just a personal preference.
BTW do you use much land hate? How do you fare against combo decks?

I don't use any land hate. There are 2 combo decks in my meta, Abzan company and Scapeshift. Abzan Co can be shut down with any of the Grave-hate cards in the SB (but game 1 is often a loss), and Scapeshift gets hurt with Grafdigger's Cage and Gaddock Teeg along with lots of lifegain. If I were to take this deck to a bigger tourney, I'd add a set of Leyline of Sanctity to the SB and cut back on some of the fun-ofs in the board to deal with Ad Nauseum Unlife, storm, and black discard. Combo can be tough but beatable if you're running the right SB cards. To be honest, I won't know more until I take this build out for a spin this Friday and see what matchups in my local meta need shoring up. Tron could be troublesome as well, but I need to practice that matchup to find out for myself. I did just barely sleeve this deck up over the weekend now that I bought new sleeves, so I'm still a relative noob to the archtype, although I've played against it many times before.

Bovine073- A bogles deck took 1st place at a SCG Modern classic recently. Take a look at the list he ran here. Of note, he ran the 14th creature (including Dryad Arbor) a single Keen Sense even though he had 4 Kor Spiritdancers, and 2 Unflinching Courage along with a MD Spirit Link. What really gets me is his use of 2 Silence in the SB. I'm guessing that's for combo decks like storm and Ad Nauseum. Just thought I'd share it with you!
