Transplant Theorist

Artifact Creature — Phyrexian Artificer

Whenever Transplant Theorist or another artifact enters the battlefield under your control, you may draw a card. If you do, discard a card.

: Put target card from your graveyard on the bottom of your library.

SaberTech on Animar enthusiasts!

Now that Animar has Transit Mage, some of the cEDH builds are running Shield-Wall Sentinel and Drift of Phantasms to use as parts of a chain that ends with getting both Ancestral Statue and Walking Ballista.

Starts with Animar having two counters on it already:

Transit Mage -> tutor for Phyrexian Metamorph -> Metamorph copies Transit Mage and Tutors for Ancestral Statue -> Cast and bounce the Statue a bunch of times to get Animar's counter count to over twice your opponents' combined life total -> Cast Statue and bounce Metamorph -> Cast Metamorph copying the Mage to tutor Shield-Wall Sentinel -> Cast the Sentinel to tutor Drift of Phantasms -> Transmute Drift of Phantasms to tutor Imperial Recruiter -> Cast the Recruiter to tutor up Walking Ballista to win the game.

Total Mana requirements: UUUR1 + 4 life.

I've also been testing out Transplant Theorist as an alternative Transit Mage target for when I already have Statue in hand and need a way to dig for Walking Ballista. The Theorist can dig through the deck with Ancestral Statue and can also net value if you happen to be bouncing a bunch of your mana rocks with Hullbreaker Horror. There have been times where blue mana was a bit tight and I found the Theorist more convenient than trying to work through the long spell chain I outlined above.

shock7123 on Artifact Aggro on a $50 Budget

Out of curiosity, when you say hyper budget, how budget are we talking? Is there a monetary limit you're trying to stay under?

For starters, your mana ramp and card draw is incredibly limited. Especially for an aggro strategy, running out of cards in hand and mana to use is especially detrimental. You have some card selection with Akal Pakal, First Among Equals, but that can be a slow process when you're not flashing out artifacts on each turn. Some cards I might recommend:

Thought Monitor and Thoughtcast - cheat these out with affinity for easy one-time value. Prices are around $0.50 and $1.00, respectively.

Mask of Memory - equip onto a flyer or other evasive creature for consistent looting. ~$0.31

Hedron Archivefoil - 6 mana over a couple of turns to be able to draw 2 isn't bad. ~$0.12

Aether Syphon - If you have the extra mana to pay into this, 2 mana to draw an extra card per turn is decent. ~$0.08

Transplant Theorist - loot whenever you play an artifact, plus get the ability to tuck cards back into your library to theoretically be able to replay later. ~$0.06

Coveted Jewel - 6 mana draw 3, then add 3 mana back. If you get attacked and don't have the ability to block one, sure, that opponent gets control of the jewel. However, it tends to start a minigame where people will just attack the Coveted Jewel's controller rather than you. ~$0.18

Lots of changes recently. Added the following, removing Words of Wind, Reality Heist, Whir of Invention, and Vedalken Archmage:

Thassa's Oracle (Great win con when you get to the bottom of your library)

Transplant Theorist (Replaced the archmage)

Ingenious Artillerist (Redundancy for Reckless Fireweaver)

Dockside Extortionist (It's just too good not to include)

Drafna, Founder of Lat-Nam (This guy is great for keeping the storm going by returning your cheap mana rocks to your hand to recast)

I added two more budget artifact creatures from Phyrexia ONE set, Unctus, Grand Metatect and Transplant Theorist.

Unctus, Grand Metatect seems powerful for a three drop artifact creature and it's compleated Grand Architect, nice flavor. Repeatable loot from other blue creatures being tapped and repeatable way to make Urza an artifact or any other creature I control blue. It's also an anthem effect for other artifact creatures. The anthem effect does turn off Foundry + Sword combo, but it's other repeatable effects make up for this as well as I have ways to bounce or remove Unctus if I want to combo with Foundry + Sword.

Transplant Theorist is repeatable loot and a way to save cards in my graveyard from being exiled or put bottom of library nonartifact cards to maybe cast again. I really like that Theorist triggers from artifact ETB not cast since then it can trigger creating a Construct or Thopter and there's no bullshit only once per turn restriction. It triggers for any artifact not just creatures, good interaction with Master Transmuter bouncing an artifact or casting with Anrakyr the Traveller. It triggers to loot when I play an artifact land, that's a big bonus. Pair Theorist with Bolas's Citadel to keep Citadel going because I can see the top card of my library before I choose to loot with Theorist. If the card is a land, loot, if not continue Citadel.
