This is my take on Darin Minard's Top 8 Boros Burn list.
The goal of the deck is pretty straightforward: kill their creatures when necessary and burn them out as soon as possible.
I've made some adjustments to account for some new cards from Born of the Gods. Namely Satyr Firedancer and
Searing Blood
, two cards which share a really neat interaction:
1) Have one or two Satyr Firedancers out
2) Use
Searing Blood
to kill some aggro creature
3)
Searing Blood
hits the opponent in the face for three
4) Satyr Firedancer triggers
5) Kill one or two more creatures
I've found this especially powerful against aggro decks.
The cards:
Aurelia's Fury - Some people may think this is a curious choice, but I like the ability to spread damage over a number of creatures to halt a midrange attack and even ping the opponent for 1 so they can't play things like Whip of Erebos or other non-creature spells.
Boros Charm - Probably my favourite card in the deck. Four to the dome for two cmc is pretty impressive, especially with Satyr Firedancer out.
Boros Reckoner - This is one major difference between Minard's deck and mine. I prefer having reckoner because he can act as a source of burn when he's on either the attack or defense. Often my games are won on the back of reckoner providing for an awkward attacking / blocking situation that holds them off long enough for me to draw into the burn to kill them.
Chained to the Rocks
- Probably my favourite piece of removal as it can hit any creature short of hexproof ones. The tiny CMC also allows me to continue to use my mana efficiently for burn.
Chandra's Phoenix
- Very effective card that often must be ignored because destroying it becomes a redundant affair.
Chandra, Pyromaster - This is the ONLY deck that I've ever been able to effectively use her ultimate ability... and it's as perfect here as you think.
Magma Jet - Best for the scry to smooth out draws.
Skullcrack - Ever since Gatecrash came out I've really liked this card. It's an effective card for preventing half of the benefit of a Sphinx's Revelation, as well as neutralizing Brave the Elements.
Warleader's Helix
- My other favourite card in the deck. An 8-point life swing is definitely a thing.
