Sideboard

Riffing off the old Full English Breakfast deck (Volrath's Shapeshifter & Survival of the Fittest) I used to play in Legacy, I threw this together one day. Since then, I have been slowly tweaking it.

With a Pack Rat in the graveyard, Necrotic Ooze can make copies of itself. The rest of the deck is tech.

Necromancer's Stockpile is a place holder for Fauna Shaman, when/if I ever decide to pick them up.

Fun Notes:

  • Nemesis of Mortals's Monstrosity ability's cost reduction still counts when Necrotic Ooze activates it. Great for getting your Ooze out of Lightning Bolt range. Not to mention it combos well with Viridian Joiner (see below).

  • Merieke Ri Berit in the end beats out destroy abilities on cards like Avatar of Woe. As your opponent enters their combat phase, steal their creatures and use them to block. And when your Necrotic Ooze untaps, the creatures die.

  • Viridian Joiner and Nemesis of Mortals in the graveyard and you can start doing abusive things. The ability on Oona, Queen of the Fae comes to mind, but Pack Rat with Thornling allows you to dump as many tokens as you have cards and swamps. Arcanis the Omnipotent in the yard helps keep that engine going.

  • Because of the way Mangara of Corondor's ability is worded, you can still sacrifice the Necrotic Ooze tokens to Skarrgan Skybreaker's ability. Likewise with the abilities on Composite Golem & Nyx Weaver.

Play notes:

  • If you encounter heavy graveyard removal, you can TRY to hardcast everything. If you're lucky you can try to abuse Nyx Weaver, but good luck.

  • For the first few turns, hardcast whatever you can. In the end you want all of these creatures in the graveyard, so don't feel bad to chump block with them. This buys you time to build up your mana so you can drop the Ooze safely.

  • DO NOT DROP NECROTIC OOZE UNLESS YOU CAN COPY/PROTECT IT. Seriously, try to souse out the kinds of removal your opponents are playing. The deck should have enough tech to protect your Oozes.

A word on Pili-Pala

Pili-Pala and Viridian Joiner in the graveyard gives you "infinite" mana. Since you also get "infinite" untaps:

  • Mangara in the yard lets you exile everything
  • Arcanis in the yard lets you draw basically your entire deck.
  • Oona in the yard lets you exile their entire deck.

If you want to play an abusive combo deck that everyone will hate:

Now chances are, with "infinite" mana, Oona is going to be your win con. If you want, make the following changes:

IN- 2x Oona, Queen of the Fae

OUT- 1x Merieke Ri Berit - 1x Mangara of Corondor

Again, let me mention how much I hate these sorts of combo decks. As it is, the deck is borderline unfun in a casual play circle. And even as a combo deck, you're likely going to get stomped at a more competitive tournament. So sideboarding this stuff in makes the deck completely unfun in casual and not competitive in tournament. Just saying.
